I'm looking to buy an iPod mini, but the problem is my computer is Windows 2000 and does not have the USB 2.0 ports, so I'm wondering if it's still compatible with the firewire or how the firewire works and the system requirements needed for compatiblility.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

If you have a PC without USB 2.0, you're unlikely to have Firewire ports (it all means that it's time to upgrade your computer).

You can usually buy a PCI extension card that would provide both of those extensions ports for a rather small sum (~20$ here, but that's 25% VAT).

(I'm not sure, but I think USB2.0 and USB1.1 are compatible. You'll get a message like "This high-speed device is connected to a low-speed port", but it should work (a sony camera worked for me, at least)).

Thanks. I was asking around and heard that ipods still work with older USB ports, but just don't go as fast. Can anyone verify this?

I don't think so... I don't have the manual with me (it's somewhere in my study), but the website says that the system requirements for Windows are:
Quote:
Windows system requirements
PC with FireWire or USB 2.0 port, or FireWire or USB 2.0 card

I know that the Firewire connection is faster than USB, though.

Gone, forever.

I actually can verify this. Before I bought my new computer my old one had USB 1.0 and worked fine, albeit a bit slower. I'd still buy a USB 2.0 card, but it does work without one.

<STOWA|Sleep> my sister questioned the title. "Half Blooded Prince? Does that mean he's a Moogle"
