I just bought the sims 2 university and went to install it, but while it was copying files and error popped up saying "a problem occured while trying to transfer the file <filename> from the media"
This was when it had copied 54%

So I popped the cd into the cdr drive and it passes 54% but stops at 60-70% I think (can't remember)

I thought maybe it meant I had to put the second disk in but that doesn't work and no amount of retrying works either

Can someone pls help me? I have a feeling its my cd drive....can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

Why do you have a feeling it's your CD drive?
Is there something you're not telling us?

Check the disc for scratches/marks (even if it's brand new). Get one of those CDs that cleans the drive, and use it. Be sure you have more than enough drive spacefor what you're installing, since sometimes they can get picky if there's barely enough left. Delete any files from the disc that may have made it onto the computer, and try again. If it still doesn't work, check for viruses.

She. ;)

It's true that it may not be the drive. Like I said earlier, check for viruses and be sure your computer can support it. Check other things, too. I had a weird instance where the mouse wasn't showing up properly in one of my games, and the problem was caused by the sound driver. :P

If you don't have a desktop computer, don't bother with one of those special CDs. Just use a very soft cloth to clean the laptop drive (the whole drive pulls out with the tray.. Unless you have a G4 Macintosh iBook/Powerbook, you would need one.) I don't like the cleaning CDs anyway. I tried one and it knocked the lens-reader off position.

Sorry, I'm new and shiny.

I knew that would happen. I couldn't call you 'it' though, could I....

I've done the virus check but nothing has turned up, I'll have to go out to buy one of those drive cleaners, so I'll keep you updated

I thought it would be the cd drive because on the regular drive will copy a certain percent while the cdr drive can copy more....

Thanks guys!

Did you check the disc? It could be a problem with that too. Also, note what xerai said about the CD cleaners...be sure you drive can handle them first.
