I'm getting one today. Maybe I'm getting a little too hyped up, but I've fallen in love with compositions a year ago, and I love listening to piano compositions on a regular basis, though I don't like to admit that to people in real life.

My mom struck a deal with a friend of her's today to get a piano for only $600. (Yes, it's a real, full-sized, black colored piano. Not one of those cheap imitations.). Good deal, ne? It's going to be transported here today in a U-Haul truck.

I can't wait to start practicing on it! I'm going to train myself. I'm not a quick learner, but I believe with the piano I may make an exception.

If you know of any good places to get good compositions, please tell me! I'll, of course, search Google, and I already know of one place that has some of my favorite anime compositions.

I was that excited when we got a piano to, know I am dropping out the day after Mother's Day because I hate it. It was a fun 7 years but it is over, it is a block and I hate doing it.

I took it for eight years...
and it was fun.

I did quite well in the Royal Conservatory, in the four theory tests I took for them I got three hundred percents, and a 98. Darn that one wrong note.
I did okay in the playing componant too. I can still sit back down and play some songs. I've still got Fuer lise charred into my brain. Don't know why, that songs the devil.

*shrug*
Congrats.

Our piano is 100 years old next year. It's got real ivory and ebony keys... and one key that can't be tuned no matter whats done to it. I love it. *pets piano*

The piano came in two hours ago. It was brown and bigger than I thought. Almost clogged the way to the hall, where my mom insisted placing it.

I found my piano on the side of the road (no joke)

We had to replace some keys, strings, and pedels, but it's great.

I <3 my piano.
I used to take lessons, but I found it boring. I can play by ear extremely well.

Yes... Very much so

Ah, color doesn't matter. Just make sure you spend the extra bit of money to get it properly tuned. Moving a piano can cause it to go out of tune. And there is nothing quite so sad as a piano that is out of tune.

I played piano in junior high and high school--and then gave the piano up for boys! Geesh, what was I thinking????? :battar:

But, even though I never did as much as I could with it (and, at times, kick myself for not being so devoted), it helped me develop a good ear for music and helped a great deal with my singing (which I also gave up way too early in life). If you can learn to play a piano, you can learn to play just about any other instrument--including your own voice.

Best of luck and make sure to get a good teacher--someone who can really inspire you.

How much money and time did that cost?

What songs can you play?

Didn't know that. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks! A teacher would be good.

Gosh, I've had my piano for years, and it's HORRIBLE! to play with it untuned, especially jazz and ragtime pieces (EVIL!!!)... ugh... I'm learning a song from Phantom of the Opera right now... And Lieberstraum (sp?)...

It is fun though, despite my lack of enthusiasum for the instrument, it's from too many years of lessons (9 years)...

I don't have anything I can "play"
If I hear something, I can pick it up within a few minutes.
I just used to spend hours fiddling with the keys.
I'm mostly a blues pianist.

Pfft, good job to whoever did it, sure as heck didn't do it in the middle of the day.

Whoa. You're awfully fortunate then- supposedly, the older the piano, the better it sounds. (Not to mention it sells nicely, but I doubt you guys are letting go of that.)

Anyway, I've taken piano for a little over 10 years so far. Doing decently in Royal Conservatory (although my results are completely inferior to Inrun's- I started with a 99 in theory (stupid flat!) then it went all downhill from there, while in performance I received 80-ish marks, now 70-ish :P), finished grade 10 a few months ago, and am working on getting a degree in performance. Sure, I won't really be using it, but I guess it's something to turn to if I need a short-term, part-time job as a piano teacher.

Have fun with that piano. Do remember that your interest might die down later on, as most who play piano do...but enjoy it while you can. I can say though that it's helped me develop good reading speeds, adequate pitch, sight reading and technique (although I can't play well by ear), and an overall sense of music that just seems to come in handy no matter what instrument comes across.

I love my piano.
But my parents are going to move it to a different wall so they can put in a 300 gallon fish tank.
It was my great grandmothers piano, and then my grandmothers/great aunts, and then my moms and it will be mine when I move out.
Theres just that one blasted key. D sharp/E flat is completely buggered. Don't know why, we've had about three different tuners look at it, no reason for it. Just is. Makes it more special.

I used to take piano lessons a long time ago, and practise on an electric piano at home... Well my parents decided to get a real piano, so they bought a baby grand piano, and let me say, its huge.
Anyway it sounded so bad, that I just kept on practicing on the electric, and when we moved we actually sold it for more then we bought it :D

Congrats on your new piano btw :D

Thanks. I hope to learn some songs. I don't know how to make use of the notes, though. :roll: Time to do some research. *starts reading instructions but then gets bored and opens another tab to check for new posts at another forum* Oops. I guess it's going to take more work than I thought. ^^;;

not always. our old piano wasnt in very good condition so didnt sound that good and wasnt worth much (about £100). it depends on the instrument.

what kind of grades are you talking about? the only music grades i know about are the associated board ones, and the highest in that is a grade 8... *looks puzzled*

Anyway, i play the piano too :) not anymore unfortunately as i dont have a piano here, but i still have a go when i'm at home with my parents. I played for about 3 years, but i had tought myself some stuff because i'd played the cello (and still do) and done music theory before i started piano lessons. i've taken up to my grade 5 in piano and then i stopped doing exam stuff and myteacher taught me pieces i wanted to learn because i wanted to concentrate on my school work and have piano as something fun to do.
