Here in dallas, there is quite the independent music scene. There are many, many clubs that allow garage bands to play.

Some of my favorites:
Spector45 Rockabilly band (Ramones meet the rolling stones)
Frontline Attack Punk band

Hahah.. Actually, those are the only two I actually listen to

I have plenty of buddy bands around town though.

What are your favorite local bands?

Yes... Very much so

currently Plan 9 USA, but i'm not sure if they're still together (they played, took a break, reunited, and the last time i saw them was june). the Max Levine Ensemble is amazing (and from my school). and who can forget the Pietasters, who i still consider local.
if youre talking about non-current local music, then Minor Threat.

Basket Case (Punk)

Chime (Metal)

I don't really like any of the other local bands

I'll admit, I only know one local band in my Indiana area, but I totally adore them. ava, they're a self proclaimed "estro-rock" band. 3 guys and a girl is the set up. You can check out some of their music at http://www.myspace.com/avarock. New Number One and Kill Kind are especially good. I must say though, they sound a lot better live than they do on the site, but it's a good intro. I own all 3 of the cds they've "released". All are EP, one being the demo for the She's Out for Blood full-length cd they're trying to get released.

Hopefully, I'll be hearing some new bands next time I go see them live. The only time I've heard other bands when watching them, I really didn't like the others. They were doing a bunch of cover songs, which is really pathetic. ava writes their own music, but will occasionally throw in a Pixies tribute, although I've never seen them do that in the few times I've seen them perform.

My friend's band. :) They're pretty good.

Another good one. Too bad they broke up.

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

We have a bunch of local bands, but only a few of them are good. My brother's friends were in a band called Strike 4. They were okay, but my old friend became obsessed with them and pretty much played all of their songs to death.

No Such Luck is alright, I have their CD that I bought for them. I saw them in concert and their pretty fun. :)

Last Perfect Thing are amazing. I don't know if their local enough to call local, but I do consider them to be. :D

Camren, The Venice...I've only heard a few songs of theirs.

And well technically Thursday is a local band. They formed in New Brunswick which is our neighboring town. And Jon Bon Jovi came from the same town that I live in. So, heh, I suppose Bon Jovi is sort of a local band too.

Its only Wellington but there are some really good local bands.

Ice n Fire (my mates band) - Metal, a bit like Metallica
Magnum Opus - Metal, extremely talented, sort of Pantera/Iron Maiden/Ozzy Osbourne style
Damned Age - Metal band, haven't heard a lot from them but they sound good
Poohate - Don't let the name put you off, they are awesome
Henderson Experience - Rock band with good originals but not serious enough
Amnesia - They were a good metal band but they broke up

We have "58" which is a good slightly local band.

But then in our more local area we have these "yellowcard/nfg/good charlotte" esque "bands" (which are definitely not my favorite) called too far gone or whatever.

Well I don't depend very much on local bands for good music.

About a year ago I was at a friend's party and they had two local bands come and play.
The first one's singer had a really...squeaky, nasaly voice. I didn't like them.
The second was pretty good, but nothing spectacular.

Haven't heard of any other bands in the area.
