It was spring in Twizzperida. The apple trees were blossoming, the birds were chirping, and Queen Twizzler was planning a royal ball to celebrate the coming of a rare purple apple tree, which had to be shipped from 10,000 kilometers away. Her master of ceremonies had carefully picked out the guests (sent out invitations to every person in the address book that he had pointed at while flipping through it). Her firestarter, Joanna, was busy arranging for the fire show that would start the royal ball. All was well in the kingdom.
(Fast Forward -> ZOOM!)
‘Twas the night of the ball. Queen Twizzler, dazzling in her majestic apple red evening gown, commented the lavish dark red furnishings of the ballroom. Food fit for royalty was everywhere a person could see. The guests had arrived 2 weeks prior to get accustomed to the castle so that they wouldn’t get lost the day of the ball. Now, they swarmed the ballroom in lavish costumes in a multitude of colors. A unique individual had come in a clashing orange and blue costume and Twizzler had to refrain from laughing her head off, though her advisor did not know what was so funny about such a hideous costume. The fire show had been splendid and the novice firestarter, Joanna, had been relieved that it had gone well. After a couple moments in the ballroom, she slipped off to change into a fiery red tuxedo. Queen Twizzler was a little concerned, however. Joanna had said she’d be right back several hours ago. However, moments after this thought had occurred, a dashing young gentleman in brown quickly helped those thoughts flit out into the festive ballroom air when he asked her for a dance. Finally, around 3 a.m., the guests retired to their rooms to rest up as they planned to leave early in the morning the next day.
Queen Twizzler left the cleaning up to her master of ceremonies and left the ballroom. She headed to her room to change out of her extravagant, stuffy red dress. Changing into a brown, slightly more comfortable outfit, she proceeded to the veranda. It was always peaceful out there. The crickets chirping in the night, the apples releasing a wonderful fragrance… The castle was eerily quiet and she hoped that not too many people were awake at this time. Those that were could sleep in the next day. The guests on the other hand were planning to leave as early as dawn. As she passed the upstairs view of the swimming pool, she saw the shadow of a feminine person who she guessed was probably Joanna illuminated in the candlelight on the swimming pool wall. Glancing down from the second floor, she saw that it was indeed Joanna.
She mused to herself, “If she didn’t want to be there, she could have just said so.”
Leaving Joanna to whatever business she was up to, she took several steps in the direction of the veranda. Before leaving the last upstairs view of the Olympic sized swimming pool, she glanced back one last time for no reason except to perhaps have some vague hint as to what Joanna was doing. She gasped as she saw somebody leap out seemingly from nowhere.
Queen Twizzler shrieked, “Joanna, behind you!”
She saw Joanna whirl around. However, she didn’t catch the rest as she ran and vaulted over the banister into the swimming pool beneath. Surprisingly, she was unharmed. However, upon surfacing, she discovered that Joanna on the other hand was not. Joanna was slowly sinking. Twizzler saw the shocked expression on Joanna’s face as well as the knife in her heart. Joanna’s blood was slowly seeping through the pool. Hurriedly, Twizzler got out of the pool, not so much to escape the blood as to not be a target in the water for whatever the killer had. However, when she was on dry land once again, she did not see any trace of the murderer. She was in shock as her loyal friend had died so suddenly.
She kept thinking, “If only I had poked my head over the rail, and talked to her. Then, the killer would have been deterred. Why didn’t I?”
She was so deep in remorse that she almost didn’t notice some movement from the corner of her eye. She managed to whirl fast enough to whack whoever it was with her golden apple staff fortunately. In front of her was a masked person who was wrapped in a cloak of dark magic. The steel dagger they had just tried to impale her with was lying on the ground. One hand was behind their back suggesting to Twizzler that she had dealt a significant blow to the killer’s hand. The killer laughed maliciously and then, threw something at her. She struck at it and the smoke orb burst. Queen Twizzler coughed as the smoke invaded her lungs and obscured her vision.
(Switching point of view to killer’s thoughts now)
“Who was this woman? Not only is she dripping wet but she evaded my thrust even though she was distracted. Or was she?”
Well, whoever she was, she needed to be eliminated. She had seen too much.
(Back to narration)
Pulling three knives out, the assassin planned to throw them through the smoke and to kill the queen then and there. However, as the assassin moved their hand back to throw it, a golden chalice flew from nowhere and struck the assassin on the head. They flinched and dropped the knives. The smoke cleared and Twizzler glared. Alongside her was Syrill, her associate (^^ My role can easily be figured out o.O). It was he who had thrown the chalice. The assassin fled as they did not want to take on two persons.
Meanwhile, a scream rang out through the part of the castle set aside for use by guests. They stumbled sleepily out of their beds and looked out the door to see somebody run past. They heard the words, “Swimming Pool.” They stumbled towards that room and were given a rude awakening at the sight of the bloody swimming pool and the sight of Twizzler and Syrill scanning the room for clues. Another person lay sprawled after having tripped over a fallen column.
Suddenly a guest pointed up and said, “Look a scrap of white cloth!”
Another guest pointed at a bottle lying near the column that was labeled with a skull and crossbones.
And so the first murder has been committed…Can you figure out the assassin before you to are eliminated?
