As I clicked on the new topic button, I got a message from my computer's antivirus program: PPT was attempting to access my area code. Only my area code. I consider this to be a problem. I would probably be willing to let a company such as google or ebay have that information, because they can use that to make my life a little easier. But there is no reason that PPT needs this information. You don't sell me a product, and you don't seperate users by region. So why, then, are you asking for something so private as my area code? That's like asking for my street address.

Sorry if I sound angry, but right not I'm certainly not feeling good.

I would check your computer for viruses. It is not PPT, more likely one of the ads.

My virus protection will warn me instantly if it were some sort of virus, and since the ads vary from page to page, there is no way every page could ask for it, besides the fact that it lists specifically pinkpt.com/forum/whatever-page-I'm-trying-to-get-to as being the site asking for it: if it were an outside page, it would list either google or the advertiser.

No, that's not it. You change that in your profile, no area code is necessary.

The advertising on PPT is area specific. That is to say, the system which places adds in your browser window is "intelligent", and doesnt waste time showing you ads which you cannot possibly take advantage of. This is only an assumption mind you, but it could be the case.

If you consider this to be a problem, then I am very sorry you feel this way. If this is indeed the case there is nothing we can do about the situation.

I've never gotten this, but I'd just put a fake area code in. I never look at the ads anyway.

PPT forums are not trying to access your area code. Your antivirus is just being silly. :)

The google ads are doing this, and they have a reason for it - they're trying to get you to click on stuff. Since the ads are not a separate page as such (they're loaded through a javascript mechanism), anything they try to access appears to come from PPT (which is not exactly true, since it gets sent to google afterwards).

Will you stop with the honour stuff?
