Before I start, I will explain for those who do not know how the Chicago Public Schools are set up. The 350 or so K-8 schools are divided into 18 areas with about 20 schools each. I am in Area 11.

About three weeks ago, our Asst. Principal asked for each homeroom to send 2 students to compete in an essay writing contest. We had to write it on the spot, and we had up to two hours to do everything. Well, it turned out that I won, which was surprising to me because I never considered I was very good at writing. Anyway, last week, the winners from each school in the area competed in another contest. We found out the winners today, and I won! I was really shocked. Now I will compete against the other area winners for the citywide championship in May.

Not only this, but our school's quiz bowl team, which I am a member of, won the area competion, too. We will compete for that citywide title in May, the day after the essay contest.

This has been one exciting week...

:P I was on my academic bowl team. Yeah. 8) We won first place with a record score. We got about 4/5 of the total points possible.

When we were practicing, we had harder questions than the ones they gave us, so we knew most of what they asked.

QuizBowl? I'm captain of my school's team. You wouldn't be referring to the QuizBowl of http://www.qunlimited.com, would you? We're going to nationals in New Orleans next month.
