I have a colored petpet but I want to paint it something else. Can I do that? also do you have to equip the petpet to paint it? thanks :)

yes you can re paint it and yes you have to have it attached, take it to the petpet puddle, alothe wouldnt it be cheaper to just buy a new petpet?

edit: what kind is it?

You can repaint is as long as it isn't an advent petpet that specifically says it cannot be repainted.

Depending on what petpet it is though it may be cheaper to buy an already painted petpet in the colour you want - painting reduces the value for quite a few petpets (depending on the paint job too obv) :)
