Fidds, I believe that anyone can learn a skill, you just tend to be better at the skills that you are naturally born with.

To me, it kind of works like math. Some people are naturally born better at math than others. Some can do impossible problems. But everyone can do at least 2 + 2 and work their way up from there.

Does that make any sense?

I tend to classify Ouija boards in the same category as astrology, tarot cards, and palm reading.

I'll let you guess what said category is.

I saw an Ouija board thingy at Walmart once, proves you can buy anything. I had fun with the one placed outside.

"Pick your nose"

"Eat Mcdonalds"

"Lol internet"

"What get?"

"Peanuts"

"Wee wee in pants for lots of embarrassment"

Ouija boards are phony, duuuhhhh....Do they actually pay your uncle? Because that is a really really pathetic job. Sorta like being a teacher to me, you can repeat your ideas over and over, they just don't hammer themselves in.

A lot of people discredit Ouija boards because they're manufactured by Parker Brothers and sold at places like Wal-Mart and Toys 'R' Us. But that is merely because the Parker Brothers company bought the rights to the design and chose to market it as a toy.
Ouija boards have been around long before the Parker Brothers company. And they come in many more designs than the standard toy store variety. One popular design is a round wooden board, with the letters around the outer edge, and the numbers in a smaller circle toward the center. The planchette usually used for this variety is a small round glass, like a shot glass.
Ouija boards are still made and sold by smaller companies as serious tools for spiritual divination. These are usually more expensive, but much more elaborate than the mass-produced toys.
The fact remains. The power does not come from the board itself. The board is merely a channel to use. If someone really wanted to use a dictionary or a microwave display (and mine is all fancy and has letters as well as numbers) then they probably could. People probably just continue to use the flat board with letters, numbers, and simple words, because it's what they're used to.
Anyone can make their own Ouija board. Just write the alphabet, numbers 0-9, and a few other things, like 'yes' and 'no' on a small board. Add anything else you like. Then rummage something up to use as a planchette, a shotglass for example.

I've been using Ouija boards since I was a kid. My mother used them when she was a kid. She has some weird stories. At one point she almost got obsessed with the thing. She would talk to it alone every day (they say you shouldn't use Ouija boards alone). The spirit at one point told her that she would die at age 18 by being tied between two trees and being torn apart. Now, this obviously didn't happen, but perhaps it was symbolism? My mother got married at age 18. Interpret as you'd like.
Also, at one point, she wrote a letter to the Ouija board (or rather, the spirits inside it that she conversed with). She took the letter and left it on the porch of an abandoned house in her neighbourhood. When she came back the next day "Ouija knows all." was written across the bottom of the letter.

I have never intentionally moved the planchette of a Ouija board in my life. And I would suggest to anyone that aims to try it that they try it with someone they can trust won't move it themselves and make stuff up.

Some of the odder things I've experienced:
The spirit spelled out a song title. We were outside, and shortly after, a car went by playing that song on the radio.
We (siblings and I) asked for a sign (something else they say you shouldn't do). And then the lights flickered. It was just the AC cutting on, which usually made the lights flicker. Odd that it happened at just that moment.
Disgruntled spirits. Sometimes you run across an annoying little spirit that won't leave you alone. They'll always pop up, and then get angry when you want to talk to someone else for a change.
And once.. I found myself talking to a spirit that couldn't spell in English. It was a bit awkward trying to communicate.

Superstition.

Mod edit : Please try to use at least three words per post.

Qaddit: Thanks for the gentle reminder, but sometimes one word has a more powerful impact than three. That said, I don't make one-word posts often.

I believe that they work, if used by someone properly skilled. If used by people mucking around in a party, most Astral beings wouldn't bother trying to communicate.

That said, I prefer Automatic Writing. Much more tangible results- handwriting signifigantly changes, writes in other languages I don't actually know and have to look up, etc.

Exactly. If you don't believe it will work, then it won't work.

Very true, 162. :)

I like automatic writing as well, although I haven't done it in a long while. :)

I've always wanted to try out an Ouija board...I haven't counted out the existence of spirits. The Ouija transcripts here are pretty interesting to read:

The spirit "Dug Hole" is hilarious; he always interrupts their Ouija conversations with insults and nonsense.

I've only ever tried one at a sleepover, years ago, and nothing happened.

You can have mine. It's collecting dust in the hall closet. ;P

Oh and I have that Ouija board keychain that they have on that website.

I don't think you have a right to judge other people's jobs. As long as they're happy, who cares?

And if you're implying being a teacher is a pathetic job (Which I think you are as you're comparing it to the uncle's job) than I take offense to that. I want to become a teacher and I don't appreciate it when people say negative comments like that.

Tell us your career (If you even have one) and I'll be happy to bash it.
