TDG @ Randomness wrote:First Day Executions

A great debate always seems to occur on the first day revolving around executions. The two sides of the arguement tend to be :

* Don't execute anybody today : Wait for dreamers to dream of somebody, we could hit a powerful innocent, it's not fair to kill somebody on day one, we have no suspects
* Execute somebody today : Dreamers may not hit anybody, if we don't kill somebody we'll be in the same position tomorrow, we can't give the baddies a free kill, we could hit a baddy

No matter where you stand on the issue you must always respect other people's opinions. Just because you think there should be an execution doesn't mean everybody else has to.

Whilst it can be good to wait for dreamers to find a baddy, the odds are they won't. Even if they do they need to find somebody that isn't a baddy that they can relay their messages through. This requires another dream.

The odds of hitting an innocent if you randomly selected a player from a group of 25 people is about 70% (In games it tends to be that 25% - 33% of the players are evil), however, with an execution it means the dreamers have one less person to have to check to be evil and the next day there is one less person to have to find suspects among.

Trust me, in a game starting with Night I was killed first. It sucked but I got over it, giving the excuse that it's not fair to be killed so early is just avoiding a reasonable answer.

Whilst it can be good to try and make it so the baddies aren't getting a free kill (There is a 30% chance of hitting one remember) it's also good to acknowledge that you are assisting the baddies by killing somebody if you kill an innocent. They have one less person to have to kill in order to win the game.

If you don't take a risk and execute somebody you don't know is innocent or evil there is no way you are going to win the game (Unless you are on a baddy team). Your dreamers are not going to find every baddy and they are not always going to survive for very long. Take a gamble and execute somebody or be sitting ducks. Whilst you don't have to execute everyday, you must execute somebody sometime or you're going to lose.

The Applehat wrote:Baddies, baddies here I come.
Beware, beware of the great good one.
Tell no lie, speak the truth.
I'll ask my question only once.

Are you a baddie? Are you not?
Answer my question or you shall rot.
If not everyone answers when the sun is at its peak,
the sun shall set with fury and dread!

Beware of those you trust too much
for the golden dragon they shall seek
once they find it lighting strikes
killing the thief that will die!

No one must touch the greater god
if they do, the skies will cry.
holy water shall spurt down
killing evil as they fall by.

Back to the topic who shall I vote?
The one who post? The one who croak?
I know naught, for I control the skies
Cant the evil around me just die?

Posting requirements I do so hate
now I'm off to eat the silver cake.

KENJALL!

I voted him because his poem sounded too 'braggy', with all that 'evil dies' and 'baddies, here I come'. Also, he said he hated posting requirements. Sounds suspiscious to me. :o

Hmm...but might it possibly be good to have such a powerful innocent?

o_O Hi I'm finally back and I'm exhausted. Before I left I posted

I hope more people will sign up. If we get enough people and the game is started I will be gone this weekend and will not be able to get on till monday. So PLEASE don't vote me off ;)

Whew glad I made it. *tries not to fall asleep* I'll read through and see what is going on.

Hmm, I'm not really sure what to think about The Applehat. His post (the whole poem thing) does seem a little out of place and suspicious.. But normally, wouldn't it just be a short poem or something?

Votes:

No execution - 4: Kalathalan, sirclucky, The Applehat, Khristian

The Applehat - 3: CWisgood, o_0, DiscordantNote
CWisgood - 1: Blk Mage

24 players, 13 needed for majority, 18 for locking

Dunno... Blk Mage sounds weird, it's the first time someone contacts me on the first day asking if I'm innocent :P
Ok, I won't vote. But tomorrow, I'm going to. As TDG said, we've got to vote off people, otherwise we can't win.

Qanda reaches the graveyard, where the bunch of guests were gathered. Looking at a slip of paper in his hand, he says, "It has been decided; there will be no execution for today."

He leaves the graveyard, muttering to himself, "And thankfully so - the later they see that monstrosity of an executioner, the better."

Night 1 has begun. All night lists due by 6 AM NST.

Mon May 16, 2005 12:13 pm

Ok, if I live till tommorrow, I will try destroying night. (Make baddies cannot kill) Bad news is, Dreamers cannot dream either. It will be a free day for all of us.

If I die... kill CWisgood. I told him my role and how destructive it was.

Mon May 16, 2005 12:16 pm

Gah, I remember when WIS had a Filibuster during Werebunny that did the same thing. I hated that so much. x_x It was just a day of nothing.

Mon May 16, 2005 1:13 pm

Qanda awoke from his sleep to scour the castle for any dead bodies which may have appeared during the night. Upon entering the dungeon, he noticed blood seeping out of the iron maiden propped against the cold stone wall.

Walking cautiously, he approached the iron maiden. He reached out with a shaking hand and opened the cover to reveal...

...The Applehat's corpse, impaled by the hundreds of spikes in the casket.

"The Applehat has been... killed," Qanda announced, visibly shaken. He reluctantly reached out to retrieve a sheet of paper impaled onto one of the spikes. "Apparently he was Kenjall, an innocent with magical powers to control the very heavens. He was telling the truth all the while."

Just at that moment, Kugetsu staggered into the dungeon. "Poison... ate... ergh." He collapses at Qanda's feet.

Qanda prodded Kugetsu's dead body, and, receiving no response, took out a sheet of paper from within the folds of the corpse's clothing. "Well, it appears that Kugetsu, the heir, has been poisoned to death. He would have taken over The Applehat's role, but unfortunately death overtook him too."

Day 2 has started.

o_O I have no Idea why the applehat was revealing role so early in the game. It was almost as beckoning to die.

vote: CWisgood

Day 2 Votes:

CWisgood - 1: Chipper

22 players, 12 needed for majority, 17 for locking

Mon May 16, 2005 1:36 pm

:( I was afraid this would happen... Even as though everyone could have killed the Applehat (he pretty much declared his role to everyone) his last words (how dramatic) are our only lead.
Vote: CWisgood
Pity about Kugetsu, too...

Mon May 16, 2005 1:49 pm

Where did he declare his role?

I didn't recieve anything from him. I'm innocent. 0:)

Really. 0:)
