As most of you know, Adam (borovan) has five pets - four Asparagas Chias and a Red Bori. The question is, why? Three out of the five are sick, and have been for over a year. Doesn't he want them? Love them at all? And does he really want FOUR of the same species and color pet?

I have four differnent pets - all painted, delighted and well-taken care off. Adam has five, four of them Chias of the same color, most of them sick and unhappy. Huh, doesn't seem fair.

And notice that his lookup isn't any different than a normal Neopian's - having five pets doesn't change a lookup much. There seems to be no problem with the images making the page go wonky. There is no reason that the rest of us can't also have five pets - except that Neopets won't allow it.

I personally love Adam and find his obsession with asparagus amusing, but this makes me quite frusterated.

With the four new pets released (Bori, Yurble, Hissi, Ruki) and the promise of others (Otter, April Fools pets) it would be wonderful if Neo could let us have just one more. Please Neopets?

adam having 5 pets makes him special. and they do change around from time to time because they test stuff etc etc.

Being test animals is bound to make them sick all the time. Revenge on the asparagus. "Does this make a neopets sick? Yup. It's working fine!"

There also also others who accidentally have gotten more than 4 pets. In a glitch, thier pet or pets disappeared and they made or adopted more. Later, thier pet(s) were returned.

More than 4 pets fits in a user lookup, but is it right? Having many real pets because they are pretty and you want to care for them or possess them all makes you a 'collector'.

I figured they were kept sick so that nobody could challenge those pets in the battledome without him having to block everything else as well. And of course there's no reason why he can't have four of them all the same colour and species if he wants to, as far as I'm aware if you are on the staff then you can change your pets into any kind you want free of charge and whenever you like (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there =) ).

It would be nice if everyone could have 5 pets and it's certainly something I'm very much in favour of happening - and then Adam could have 6 pets, heh

i personnaly think its unfair for adam to have 5 pets..just becuz he is a staff of TNT it still isnt fair...seems very hypocrytical

He created the site. I think he's entitled to as many pets as he likes, really.

Ditto. There is no such thing as unfairness since it is his site; why shouldn't he have as many pets and neopoints as he wants? They are fake virtual stuff designed by him and the other staff anyway!

It also doesn't make it any different if he does not take care of his pets - they are virtual, as said, and he uses them mainly for testing purposes - and also to make people like you (Lorcanwolf) envious.

I could be wrong, but I thought the problem with 5 pets was that it would make your quick reference pet page off, like the text for 5 pets (stats and such) wouldn't all fit in one line or something.

If he were modifying a personal account to allow him to have five pets or otherwise obtain an unfair advantage than yes it would be innapropreate. But on an account that's not only an official creater account but also an account specificaly set aside for testing I honestly don't believe that it matters much.

For the five pet subject in general. I wonder if it would increace server load. It certainly would barely affect the amount ot data that they have to store. Since each pet uses stock images the only data to track is pet colour species stat and equipped weapon information. Well and the pet page, but since they don't host images that's also just a limited size text file.

If if would keep people from creating multiple accounts i'm all for 5 pets. However, in general, one pet limit is roughly as arbitrary as another. Realistically what is a number of pets where the average user could care about all of them 4,? 5? 10? If page set up wasn't an issue (and it's really not) what do you think is an appropreate number of pets?

Well, one extra pet for every user adds up to a lot of database space taken up, which would make the site slower.

Surely though if you could have one more pet on each account then this might dissuade people from having another side account. Some people obviously would take advantage of it to have 25 pets over their accounts but others would probably be more content with just 1 or 2 accounts with that extra pet space.

I think it would be nice if say after a year of playing neopets you got to have an extra fifth pet on your main account

While I too would love to have the option of getting a fifth pet (wanted a hissi on my main account SO bad! ... and if the sharkaw is released as a pet I will a'splode!), Adam is Adam. I've seen him with 6 pets. There had been alot of boards one day with all these people doing the "have you seen his lookup, he has 5 pets, he must be cheating!" kind of topics.

Even after telling people who he is, they were still like Waaah.

So, he went and added a sixth pet. That really drove people insane. It was brilliant

I personally think four is plenty. If they let us have five, it wouldn't be long before everyone started saying "I wish we could have six!" and it would just go on there. Just because Adam has five, and it's obviously doable, doesn't mean we should all have five. Even if the QuickRef page wasn't an issue, I doubt they're gonna give us five pets anytime soon, or at all.
I hate to really turn this into a 'suck-it-up-and-deal-with-it' post, but sometimes I feel like telling people to just be happy with what they have.
The fifth pet debate reminds me of the purple pets. They could give us a fifth pet, but they won't. They could kill the random orange bits on the purple pets, but they won't. Know why? Because it's their site, and they can do whatever they want to it. For all we know, they add those orange spots just because they know we wish they wouldn't. They have every right to, and as much as we complain, we keep playing anyway. Because we're addicted, and they know it. And I say more power to them.
