Posting int he Gallery(the way I see it)

ARTWORK

Step 1: look at it
Step 2: Ooh, pretty! I really like -blank-
(seriously. Look at the majority of artwork posts.)

I find this seriously offensive. Not to myself but to everyone who posts in the gallery. When you come into a place like PPT, you have to understand that not everyone is a professional artist. Sometimes people just want to say "it's nice" or "thats pretty" or "you're great". Not everyone knows how to give a critique nor does everyone WANT to give a critique.

I know that not everyone posts crap comments. That's why I said THE MAJORITY, and not ALL. See, those mean different things.

WRITING

Step 1: Read it. Yes. All of it
Step 2: Actually have to think about it in order to post something.

Same amount of steps, but one actually requires effort.

If you look at the written work posted in the gallery, you'll see just about the same type of comments for the written work... that you will for the majority of the artwork.

Weird that you should say that, because I've yet to see a meaningless post on any written work. Actually, the only spammish posts I've seen on written work would be mine and my friend's, in an attempt to keep our things alive. (It failed miserably, sparking this whole thing)

When it's so easy to flood artwork with meaningless posts, writing is buried at the bottom of the board before you can blink.

The art gallery is hardly being 'flooded'. The fact of the matter is, is that people will comment on what they want to comment on. Do you honestly think demographics will change the amount of posts on written work? Because I don't. People will comment on what they want to comment on. If you want comments, advertise your work to your friends. Put it in your sig in a link. As well, I see very few meaningless posts in the art gallery, and if you see any, be feel to point them out to me, and i'll be more then happy to take action.

When I say flooded, I don't mean it in volume of posts compared to other forums. I'm referring to the comparison of posts on artwork compared to written work, particularly when the work is first posted. If you've ever tracked the progress of, say, a poem down into the depths of despair...it's a short trip. Something along the lines of..

*poem posted*
*poem ignored in place of pictures, on which comments with no actual depth or purpose are posted*
*poem goes....SPLAT on the bottom of the board*

The first thing I do when I finish a poem, story, etc., is show it to my friend. She's the other person who attempts to keep writing alive on the gallery. Anyway, it doesn't do me any good to advertise it to her, she reads most of my stuff even before I do.

As for pointing out pointless comments...prepare to be flooded

That's where the new board would come in.

If writers had a place where they could post their work and it wouldn't get swamped and buried by artwork, they could actually get meaningful evaluation and comments by people who are willing to read what they put hard work into creating.

Again. Demographics will probably not change anything. Written work goes in the gallery. If you pay attention to PPTAC (PPTMAC), you will have noticed that written work has been doing quite well recently.
If you want meaningful criticism on your work, I suggest you start doing two things. EVERYONE here who has posted saying they want a new board, prove that it's deserved. Start commenting on the work thats in the gallery. Keep the written word at the top. Frankly, I don't see that being done right now. And don't say that "it's all pushed to the bottom". The gallery does not get that much traffic. Everyone here who says PPT needs a writing board, prove it. Start posting more written material, start commenting on the work thats there, and then maybe if theres a big enough push for it, maybe it can be brought up again.

I DO POST ON WRITTEN WORK, DANGIT!!! You tell me to start like I'm standing back and doing nothing. I can name exactly two people who actually go all-out to keep written works alive on the Gallery. One is me, the other my best friend. Unless you'd like me to post a new comment each time the piece drops down, get off my back about that.

To Sum it up...

Authors deserve just as much credit and appreciation for their work as artists do. Writing is just another form of art. If Artists can have their work appreciated by other artists in the gallery, I think it's only fair that authors have a board where they can do so too without fear of being drowned by lazy comments on art.

No one says that writing isn't appreciated on the forums. Writers are free to comment on other writers works. I've never seen a post or a rule that says "Writers cannot comment on work, or authors cannot recieve comments". And really, do you need to say "lazy" comments. As i've already pointed out, many people do not know how to critique art, and I really feel it's not fair to hold that against them.

I personally am no longer posting any of my works in the Gallery, art or otherwise. It's not fair.

Thats your choice. If you don't post, so be it.

Please don't take offense at my rudeness in the above comments.
I'm letting the fact that my entire life has literally come crashing down around my head interfere with my posts again. Bad Renn.

I don't see the problem with the board as it is now. There aren't seperate boards because there isn't demand for them. The gallery is for showcasing original artwork. Written or otherwise it's all art. It belongs together unless there are problems that can be resolved by seperating them, which there are not. How people comment on individual threads is irrelavent because seperating the two areas won't change anything involving that.

Well the seperate board would prevent writing from getting shoved off, but since it's already ignored, it'll just sit there... forever... and ever... and ever...
So I guess you guys are just gonna keep it the way it is. :P

Poetry - five comments
Song - two comments
Poem - one comment
Poem - 3 comments
Poem - 2 comments

On the first page of the gallery.

Out of everyone of you who has complained, not a single one of you have posted on every single one of those topics. Not ONE single person. Now I admit, sometimes you just don't want to post on all the topics.. but... frankly, if you want something like this, I think you need to earn it. And to be honest, out of everyone who has complained about the amount of posts of written work, and comments that written work recieve... no ones doing anything about it.

Writing does not get shoved off. Theres just less of it posted.
If you people want the board, then post your work, and comment on other work, and prove that you need a writing board.

But I really see no more point in complaining about not having one, considering that it hasn't been shown that there needs to be one.

Having written work on it's own board isn't going to make more people read and comment. Sure, the threads won't get pushed down by visual art, but they won't automatically become more frequently read just because they have their own board.
You're right, reading a story takes more time and effort than looking at a drawing or whatnot. It's because of this that they get overlooked. I love reading, but I prefer doing it in certain settings, and usually not online. Maybe it's a short attention span, I don't know.
Perhaps you should try posting your writings on some other forum specifically geared toward creative writings? You'd probably get much more response there than here, a Neopets forum.

Actually, I've been thinking about it and I think another board would make too much of a clutter. We already have plenty of boards, and it's not like we don't already have a board for writing. The Art Gallery doesn't have too many pieces in it in the first place, so it's easy to find the writing amoungst paintings, photos, drawings and whatnot. Just because it's not the first topic at the top doesn't mean it's hard to find.
Plus creating a whole new board seems a lot of work for just one interest that already has a board in the first place. Doesn't make too much sense to me.
And I agree with Sapph that there are entire forums for writing where all the members are interested in reading and writing and you would get more of a response than here at a Neopets themed forum.

Feh. Fine. I lost. Didn't think it'd do much tp chnage your minds anyway, but it was worth a try.

Inrun, though, I think you're being rather unfair about the fact that none of us haveposted on ALL the written works. The only one on which I have not posted is one that I did not like and could not think of a way to improve it. If I can't post something meaningful, I don't post.
