Who wants a completely offtopic question???

Oooh I do!

Wonderful.

At what point does a discussion become debate board material? Just curious.

While I believe that there are omens or signs or whatever you want to call them when we're trying to be shown something, I think that by saying you saw violence on TV you're not getting the trickj. That's like saying you went to a plant store and you're surprised you saw roses or a court room and surprised you saw lawyers or Iraq and surprised you saw Weapons of Mass Destruction... wait. Ok well 2 out of 3 ain't bad either.

Something else this topic reminded me of is the Global Consciousness Project which you've probably already heard of but for those that haven't, the project uses random number generators (using binary) and studies the results. It started out by seeing if people could use their will to change the results - through thinking. Boring you might think, and you're probably right but what they have shown (whether through coincidence or not) is that when bad things happen in the world (events that send shockwaves throughout the world, literally or politically for example) changes can be seen in the results from these machines located around the world. The results can become heavily weighted one way or another, basically no longer random.

The main website for it is here, with the table of basic results here, and a more understandable description in wikipedia here. There are just as many websites denouncing the project as there are celebrating it, but it's an interesting read none the less. (And combines both science and art *ducks* ;) ). And if it is all true rather than coincidence it would definitely support the existance of omens, or so it could be hypothesised.

Oh, comingt2atvnearu, you are definitely one of the reasons I hang around this site. Have you ever thought about doing stand up? I would say lawyer, and I think you'd be brilliant in the courtroom, but I get the feeling that you would take a pass on it. Maybe Ralph Nader's replacment when he eventually retires?

You are so right. It could just be total coincidence--or because one was seen, a heightened awareness came about when the other "deathly" things followed. Sort of like never noticing anyone driving a black 2002 Honda Civic, but as soon as you buy one, it seems you see one everytime you are driving.

One final thought from me (I see you all shaking your heads saying please, no more words! :) ). One of the greatest Presidents, if not the greatest President, of the United States was a strong believer in the supernatural. Abraham Lincoln had seances in the White House, felt/saw the ghost of his dead son on several occasions, and had 2 vivid premonitions of his own death shortly before he died.

And, honestly, it is something that none of us will really ever know for sure until we are no longer around in the flesh. I hate to sound morbid, but it is true.

So, basically, it is a matter of believing what you will. I believe what I believe and I do respect people who don't believe the same as me.

There, I put the soap box away for awhile.

I've done some standup work. Its something I'd like top get back into eventually. Maybe even make money from it at some point.

As for Abe, he's always been mildly fascinating to me. I sugggest you check out a new book from Sarah Vole (I think that's her name, she was the voice of Violet in The Incredibles). Its a story about Lincoln's assassination and others. If you get the audio version, it stars Conan O'Brian, clearly one of the coolest cats on TV today, not that there's much competition. Regis just ain't as hip as he used to be.

I once dreamed that our pet dog had been killed. It got into a fight with a fox or something(it was a little dog). The next day I wake up and find that the dog had been hit and killed by a car  . Freaky things happen. :o (id share a few more as well, but I think they are too relegious for this board)
