BC has exams for grades 5 and 7 (not provincials, but they do count for something and they're something similar), as well as provincials for 10, Socials 11, and 12. We also have a huge portfolio thing which we need to complete.

Still, I guess all this is better than the "Not Yet" grading and studying something 28 times. O___o

Modifications to education such as this frequently don't reach a full implementation stage when they're proved to be craptacular.

EQAO is only in Ontario, the other provinces have their own versions and/or editions of standardized testing, man.

Ontario has a Math EQAO and a English EQAO. The former is simply assessment for the sake of testing, it has no implications on your finale unless the school sees that you need it, and the latter, The English EQAO (Literacy Test) is a REQ to graduate, if you don't pass it, you don't complete high school.

I know there are three or four people at my high school who've yet to pass it and are "graduating" (completing Grade 12) in 5 days.

Twenty-eight separate times means study before school, study during class, study when you eat, study when you get home from classes, study at night, etc. Each one is a different time. I still think that statistic is crap, seeing as I never, ever study, and I have gotten all great marks (except for this one class I almost failed because I was too lazy to do any of the projects in the final semester).

I live in FL too and I'm starting high school in the fall. So you're telling me by the time I'm a junior/senior that's going to be in effect? Like, seriously? 100% positive?

Gosh, that's even stupider than the science FCAT I had to take last year.

D: Only Pinellas County. I'm not sure about other counties in Florida.

Speaking of FCAT... :D I got 99 percentile in both math and reading (perfect score on the reading part; 3 problems wrong on the maths). :D

I remember taking the grade 3 and 6 provincial exams. They were quite boring.

Ok phew. It better not happen in Broward.

I got 98 on math (D: first year I didn't get 99!) and a 96 on reading, 4.5 on writing and 348 on science :D

HAHAHAHA New update.

My mum went to the next workshop lesson today. They introduced the concept of the "Knowledge Wall."

Kids are each given a piece of paper or index card to put on the bulletin board with all the information they believe will help them during that chapter's tests. During each quiz/test, each student is permitted to go up there to look at the "knowledge papers" for 60 seconds. They are allowed to go up at any time during the test/quiz.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

So they can just look at the questions when they get the quiz, then scurry up to the board to look up the answers.

*slams head on the nearest brick wall* But WHY?! That's what the whole idea of studying is, to review the material you think will be on the test ***before*** the test...not during the test
Ugh.
That's it, I'm leaving the country. This is just beyond ridiculous. Surely someone with a brain will denounce these new ways of "teaching."

That is just sheer stupidity.

The people who made this system up need the education more than the people they're placing this on.

My math teacher did something remotely like that...

For two tests total, we got about 1/2 a class period the day before to copy down as many things from our math notebook onto a piece of paper that she gave us (it had all the topics the test would cover) that we could, and we thought would help us.

And they did. I completely filled out my paper both times, and both times I got a high A (the first time a 96 or something, the second time a 100)

It seems to work well, everyone got at least a B (I think)

I know one of my profs told me at the begining of the year, that the best way to study, is to read what you want to study over once, go and do something else, come back in an hour, re-read it, go away for 45 minutes, come back, re-read, then leave for half an hour, come back re-read, leave for 15, come back, re-read.
Quite frankly, it's worked for me.
I did cramming on one exam, got a really bad mark (C-, ie, 60 percent, still makes me gag), used that method on the second exam for my course, got an A. For me it works, it worked for a lot of people in my program too. But to be honest, the reason I think it worked, is because you took the time to study.
This new method is encouraging failure, and mediocrity. It doesn't teach you how to think, it teaches you to be a drone.
It's disgusting, and if I ever get my education degree and they try to implement this where I teach, i'll quit.

Wow.

As much as I would love to have that happen, it's just not fair.

Ask your mom if that's going into effect in Broward :D
