Coke! In my area of Texas, we call everything coke. I was talking about this to someone the other day, actually. They said, Want a coke?, and I automatically said, Do you have Sprite?...

We did a survey of my whole school last year during math class (see how much work we do in a gifted and talented school?), and we only found one person who said pop, because he was from New York. We then proceeded to tease him mercilessly, because he was the only one who didn't say Coke. I think I managed to break him of it by the end of the year though...

There's an online quiz about what type of English you speak. I forget the link. :P

Was it on blogthings.com? :P I found that last night to help me with ideas for the poll. Heh heh.
(And according to the quiz, I speak 60% General American English and 35% Yankee.)

We call it soda in this neck of the woods, and my cousin from Washington thinks we're all hicks for it. Apparently, over there it's "pop", which is the stupidest thing ever.

Make the next one about, "Sofa, Couch, or Chesterfield"?

Any kind of carbonated drink with a large amount of sugar in it, I call pop or soda, about 50% for each. If I'm talking about a specific brand name, then I'll use that name, so it's Pepsi.

Also, any soda pop like Pepsi or Coca-Cola (the black/brown ones with caffene (in Canada only cola sodas have caffene)) is a cola.

And it's chesterfield.

If I don't know the brand, it's soda.

But I'm the only one I know who calls it that. I live in Georgia (just outside Atlanta, to be more precise) and I can honestly say that I live in COKE LAND. All soda is coke. I think it's because Coca-Cola was invented here.

But I don't drink soda anyways. I find it icky.

Well, I'm starting a new, hopefully series, of polls about the English language. You know the whole saying, "You say to-mate-toe, I say toe-mah-toe." It's sort of like that, only with things like celler/basement, ya'll/you all...things like that.

This week I'll be polling what people call our beloved drink...Pepsi!

Do you call it soda, pop or coke? (If you call something different, what do you say instead?)

FEEDBACK: Have any ideas for other rounds of this? Any will be really helpful! :battar:

This You say to-mate-toe, I say toe-mah-toe reminds me of advert that I once heard which went something like this:

Quote:
You say to-mate-toe, I say toe-mah-toe. You say po-tat-toe, I say po-ta-toe, toe-mah-toe, to-mate-toe, po-tat-toe, po-ta-toe let's do the whole thing over.

BTW I call Pepsi as Pepsi and I am a Brit. I also call the drink by their brand names.

When I think of pop I think of grandfathers and as for soda has on question what in the smeg is soda?

Interesting Fact: Coca Cola use contain the illegal drug cocaine (aka coke) hence how Coca Cola got the nickname of coke.

Thanks for insulting everyone who calls it pop.

Actually, it went:

Quote:
You say to-mate-toe, I say toe-mah-toe. You say po-tat-toe, I say po-ta-toe, toe-mah-toe, to-mate-toe, po-tat-toe, po-ta-toe let's call the whole thing off.

Another Interesting Fact: Coca Cola actually used to be a medicine. It progressed to be sold in shops as a sweet drink, until a woman ordered some Coca Cola and the waiter accidentally mixed it with carbonated water and then gave it to her anyway. The woman said it was delicious, and thus, Coca Cola was born. Gradually the cocaine came out, though. xP

(This is coming from the person who's been to the Coca Cola museum in America. xP)

To answer the question, I call it Coke sometimes, when I'm feeling lazy, and Pepsi when I'm not.

If I know the brand name of it, then it's "(brand name)," but if I don't, then it's a soft drink.

If it's brown like Coke, then it's coke. If it's any other color, then I call it the right name. I think Pepsi and Coke taste the same, so I don't pay much attention to what I call it.

Pepsi is Pepsi, coke is coke. They both taste similar but are different things so I call them differently.

Did you know, Pepsi tastes sweeter than Coca-Cola/Coke. Of course, that's only what I think :P Oh and Sprite tastes sweeter than 7-up; again, my opinion.

I like cream soda more though...
