What do you guys think about this idea? Personally I think this would totally spoil the idea of sidebars and I would hate to see this happen but is this within the realm of reality?

I personally would like to see a variety of "free" sidebars. They have a whole bunch of avatars that you can use without obtaining them (the species avatars). I'd like to see something like different colored sidebars (yellow, green, blue, red) that you don't have to unlock. That way you can customize your view of the site if you'd like, but the special sidebars would still be special.

A set of default sidebars would be nice. Maybe for the four basic colours, or some pet species or something.

I think, just a side bar in four colors. Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, would be sufficiant. Others you should have to work hard for.

*nods in agreement to the basic color idea* Prehaps they should each just have a small pet decoration-all in that particular color, so its not *compleatly* plain. *hopes that made sense*

I say, keep four basic colour ones, as plain as the yellow. That way, those with slow internet or slower computers don't have to face a super slow sidebar.

TNT could even make like an ultra-lite sidebar, for the RSers and slow interneters to use.

Yeah i agree to the idea of having a range of Basic Colours as our sidebars. Not everyone loves Yellow. Some may like green or blue or something. Just a few basic ones and the rest can be earnt through ways like... how we get avatar.

An "ultra-lite" sidebar would be awesome for people playing NeoQuest too. Or anything that involves lots of refreshes, like Pyramids.

I'm with most others - keep a basic set available to all, but the special ones should remain rare.

These days we can 'skin' everything from media players to messageboards to personalise them - so it'd be nice if we could do the same to a site we all use a lot.

Personally I'd like to have a dozen or so clickable sidebars to use, with my favourite pets or such... just like the avatars, have some rare and some easy ones.

Good idea, but it might not be feasible based on how they have sidebars coded. Most "theme" codings generally have a base coding, with variables for the image URLs. When you select your theme, a certain variable comes into those URLs and the image appears.

If they do decide to do this, it'd require that they rework how themes are coded, and how the whole sidebar is coded. Probably something they don't want to do right now.

Feasible or not, I still think it's a great idea. I like the idea of having different colors as default settings if you want them, and then maybe some easily unlocked ones with different pet themes, or color themes (like Island, Faerie, Plushie, etc.)

I'm quite fond of the basic yellow sidebar.

I know alot of people don't like it because it probably burns their retina's out but I likes it *says whilst wearing sun glasses*


I'd like to have more basic sidebars likes the obvious normal colours, but I was also thinking why don't Neopets have some kind of themed sidebar to do with the Paintbrushes ?

For example if you painted your pet sponge the sidebar could be changed to sponge and so forth for other colours like skunk, robot, disco, darigan etc

However I think that if they did do this, you can only get the sidebar with the coloured pet you have. For example if you had a disco pet and painted over it with a clay p/b you'd lose the disco and gain the clay....

I'm only saying this so people won't collect them and brag, like they do with avatars.
