Ah, it's that time again. Dallas was filled with fandom. Hello and goodbye Project A-kon 16.

My dad and I spent the weekend wandering about at A-kon. We arrived midday on Friday to a slight computer glitch that lost our preregistration information, but the staff was friendly and they fixed it. The only disappointment was not getting my uber fancy convention badge.
We saw an amazing concert on Friday night. ZZ, Kimiko Kato, and Dream performed. Each performance was just awesome. ZZ has to be one of the most energetic bands I have ever seen live. The lead singer talked a lot and constantly had the crowd screaming. I'm surprised they were actually first. Kimiko Kato was wonderful. She had a great voice, a lot of spunk, and she despite being slightly pushed aside for simply opening for Dream, but she was constantly grateful for being able to perform in the first place. She also had a show on Saturday night during the cosplay event, but I missed it. Dream was just brillant. Every single song had the audience screaming lyrics back at the stage. Not to mention the two original band members that arrived were just adorable. They had lists of phrases to use and they tried so hard to tell everyone how they felt about being able to perform for them. Everyone rushed the stage when they performed their Inuyasha ending theme. I've never heard so many Americans trying to sing ing Japanese before. The band got a kick out of it, though.

We did so much at the convention, I think I'd really bore everyone if I got into the rest of it.

So, does anyone else go to conventions? If so, which ones do you attend? Is it regularly or just when you feel like it?

Fumoffu had a bit of a crush on the girl in boots.

He kept grabbing her and trying to hug her. I don't think she minded as much as she pretended to.

He had a bunch of balloons in her hand. After this picture he ran towards me, hit me with them, tried to hug me, and then waddled off.

I've gone to Baltimore for Otakon '03 and '04. I've also been to AnimeNEXT '04, which is close enough to my house to not book a hotel.

For a while it seemed it might be a regular thing. But due to complications I'll be going to neither one this summer. But I pushed my A-NEXT pre-reg to next year. I'm thinking of maybe bringing my little bro along on Saturday as an 8th grade graduation gift. He'd love it.

I do plan to go to an anime con the summer after I graduate high school with my best friend from Florida. We've always wanted to go together, and what better way to celebrate the end of high school than go somewhere like that with your bestest friend?
I want to cosplay as Kakashi. (Big surprise!) :D

Fanime. This has been my 3rd year. It is always a wonderful experience. And we had ZZ too as well as Kumiko Kato

My daughter and I went to Anime Cental in May--just outside of Chicago. It was a blast and I am not into anime, whatsoever, though my daughter is very much so. However, I do have to say I am extremely OK about people expressing whatever the heck they want to express about themselves. In other words, it did not bother me in the least that there were middle-aged men dressed up as little girls from Sailor Moon--though my husband, well, he would have bust a gut if he saw some of the stuff that I had seen. I loved the masquerade--where people dressed in costume and were judged. It takes a lot of guts to put on a costume and go on stage in front of people who could laugh you to death!!!

I plan to take my daughter again next year. And, the year after. Who knows? Maybe next year, I will go as a Lolita Goth from Fruits Basket? My daughter is begging me to do so. Ha!!!! We'll see.

There is also a con here in October/November. Anime Reactor. We went to it last year and will undoubtedly go again this year (hurrah for living in Chicago!). It isn't an big as Anime Central, but still a good time.

I suggest to anyone who has one in their area to go to it. They are a lot of fun and way beyond anything you see in everyday life. Well worth the money I spent. And, something my daughter might not forget for awhile.

I saw this and had to post. What is it with parents who are anti-anime? Sorry to rant, but haven't they even bothered to see what it is about? I am not into it, but do support my kid 100 percent, who is very much into it.

I think back to my parents. They hated the music I listened to: Led Zepplin; Emerson, Lake and Palmer; Pink Floyd full blast on the stereo. But, they never told me I couldn't listen to it and they never told me I couldn't see their concerts. In fact, one of our friend's parents drove us to see Emerson, Lake, and Palmer because none of us had a driver's license. Parents need to dig deep and remember how they were when they were teens.

Sorry, I am an adult in my late 40's and I just had to rant about this. I get so miffed at my fellow adults who don't even take the time to investigate whether an activity is safe or not, but just outright bans it because it is "different" and not the norm. Grrr!!!!! The people who hosted the Anime Central that I attended were approximately my age and did a great job at keeping the thing safe, safe, safe. No drugs, no illicit activities. They did not want a bad reputation, so they made sure people followed the rules and, if anyone did not, they were out of there!

Tested made this fabulous set for me!!! Isn't it great?

Actually, my mom has sat down and watched some of the anime I watch with me, and she doesn't like it. She thinks it's a bad influence, and she also thinks it's creepy that middle aged people would find it acceptable, let alone enjoy it. No matter how innocent the thing I try to show her is (Seriously, she turned Spirited Away into a lecture on how I should take time to get to know someone before deciding I love them -_-), she always finds a problem with it.

Of course, it doesn't really help matters that Yoh's last name can be roughly translated to 'pothead'.

Hehe, at least I'm not S-chan, though. Her dad thinks it's all satanic, and has had her talk to their pastor to try to get her to stop liking it x)

I also have to find a convention near me that isn't in Columbus, because my mom would DEFINITELY refuse to take us there....

For some reason... blue and green hair never looks as good as it does in anime.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.
