Alton Towers is one of the biggest theme parks in the U.K. I've been loads of times but unfortunately, after a rather nasty experience involving 7 consecutive loops, a copious amount of vomit and some odd Japanese tourists taking photos, I swore never to go on a roller coaster again. Until today! Yes, I got over my irrational fear of rollercoasters by going on the Nemisis, Obilivion and Rita. And I liked them!

Has anyone else been? Favourite rides?

Seven consecutive loops?! Oh man, what coaster's that? If I ever go to the UK, I'm definitly going to go there.

I guess Alton Towers is to the UK as Cedar Point is to the USA, huh?

I can kinda relate to you with the coasters. I went on a few of the crazier ones a few years ago at Dorney Park (same company that owns Cedar Point, for those who wonder), and almost completely elminated my acrophobia.
Nifty things, coasters...

Ooo no, it was in America in Florida. One of the theme parks there but I can't remember which one. It was my first big coaster too so it put me right off.

Hmm, I'll have to look it up. It's probably at one of the Six Flags parks down there.

I think the Hulk coaster at Universal Studios Flordia has 7 loops.

*superenvy!* I've always wanted to go to Alton Towers. Shame it's a bit far off from here... >.>

I've seen pictures of Nemesis, and it seems awesome just looking at it. I'd really like to go on Oblivion, too, as well as most of the other ones there.

Hehe, I'm a coaster freak, myself. I'm a bit deprived here in little ol' North Carolina, where the only real amusement park for about 500 miles is Paramount's Carowinds, and the best coaster there is the Borg Assimilator. That's saying something, considering that it's a hand-me-down Vekoma Flying Dutchman that will break down about five times in the two hours that you'll be waiting in line to ride it. >.>

Ugh. I HATE coasters. My family goes to Cedar Point every year for my brother's birthday (We only live an hour or two away), and I always end up sitting outside while my brother goes on rides.

The only rollercoaster I've been on is in Korea's Everland or something like that. And I only went on it because when it comes down, there's this less feeling of your heart being left up there, not because of its two loops. And after that I hurt my back. And another one is the swinging ship that was nearly vertical...I couldn't even scream. While the two friends next to me were sticking their faces in the passengers in front and making vomitting noises. I daresay the passengers had this funny look on their face. :D

If I wasn't scared of rollercoasters, I'd definitely give this one a try; if my body can cope with seven loops that is. :)

heeheehee...vomit...heeheehee...

I've been to theme parks all over the country (King's Island and King's Dominion, six flags, cedar point, Disney World, et cetera) and my favorite will always be Cedar Point. It's phenomenally huge, it's right on the lake so there's always this great breeze, it's got a good mix of rides, and it's got this great down-home feel that is totally at odds with its sheer scale.

It's great. If you're back in the states, take some time to go to little old Sandusky Ohio and visit Cedar Point. You won't be disappointed.

Heh, no we didn't go on Air because the queues were massive. I've been on before and it is one of my favourites. I so preferred Rita though, even though as soon as I let go, we turned a corner and I slammed my head off the side. It goes so fast you can't see a thing and have no idea where you're going. It's so fast my friend started dribbling!

I loathed Oblivion, I was too scared to enjoy it. I was shaking all over. I'm glad I went on though, even for the experience. It was the last one we went on so the queue was only half an hour long.

Ooo strange story, I saw a girl who looked *just* like ...Alex from PPT in the queue next to me on the Spinball Whizzard. I kept looking at her and she kept looking back, it was weird. Alex, did you go to Alton Towers by any chance? :P

Darn, I'm a coaster fan and the fact that all cool coasters are in foreign countries is making me envious! :(

I have a fear of rollercoasters too although I can usually be convinced to try them once. I usually find I stress myself out and think about how horrible it's going to be and then it really isn't so bad (an anti-climax). I've been on a few rollercoasters although I don't know how impressive they are compared to half the other rollercoasters around the world.

I've been on the following:

- Turbo Mountain at Adventure World (http://www.adventureworld.net.au/) - I made myself sick on this one as I get motion sickness and I spent the entire time with my eyes closed

- Leathal Weapon at Warner Bros. Movie World (http://www.movieworld.com.au/rides_attr ... ?ride_id=5)

- Corkscrew Rollercoaster at Seaworld (http://www.seaworld.com.au/entertainment/rides.cfm) - 3 loops I don't want to think what 7 must be like :o

and I think the last one was

- Cyclone at Dreamworld (http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/st ... me=Cyclone)

(I've also been on the Eureka Mine Ride at Dreamworld but that was the stupidest Rollercoaster/thrill ride ever!)

I'll definately have to remember to visit all the other theme parks around the world when I get around to doing some travelling *adds Alton Towers to the list*! It's a pity there isn't a really big theme park here in WA.

the one where it shoots you up the side of the big tower at dream world is cooool.

we were queueing on for the cyclone and it broke down just as we got to the front of the queue :( soooo annoying!
