It's highly unlikely that it would be anyone not mentioned in CoS.
I thought about Godric Gryffindor for a while, but moved on to Salazar Slytherin, which still didn't feel right.
My theory still stands. It's Tom Riddle. He's the half-blood prince. And Slytherin is the half-blood king. =D
**adds more to theory** Maybe it's more than blood that made Tom the heir. Perhaps Salazar's 'spirit' or whatever chose Tom as his heir based on his past. I just have this strong feeling that Salazar's past is similar to Riddle's past (which is described a bit in CoS, but mainly comes out in GoF).
**makes one last feeble attempt** Please let Tom Riddle be the HBP and Salazar Slytherin be the HBK **cries and looks feebly towards England** J.K. wherever you are... PLEASE?!
(I've been awake for 29 hours, please ignore any insanity in the above post)

Was Salazar Slytherin half-blooded? I'm pretty sure he was pure blooded, but I don't remember much about Harry Potter at the moment.
Half-Blood Prince, if in the case of Tom Riddle, probably has something to do with him being the Heir to Slytherin. But instead of being a normal pure blooded prince, like the "king", Salazar Slytherin, he's half blooded, adding that description into the title.

Yes, Salazar was pure blood. That's why Slytherin wanted to make Hogwarts open to only the pure blood families, but the other 3 founders disagreed.
It's most likely Tom Riddle, but knowing JK Rowling, that's too obvious. It's someone we probably never would think.

Now, canidates for the throne. Have we already ruled out Harry? I mean, we can't have Harry referring to himself in the third person all through book six, and maybe seven. Introducing Harry Potter, and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter. 0_o

Maybe Hagrid is the HBP? The interaction between wizards and other creatures is going to play a huge role in the next two books. Maybe he's a half-blood giant prince? </awfultheory>

That's a good one XD
The Tom Riddle theory sounds good, but from the rumors section on her site, it's fairly obvious that JKR knows people over anylise her books, so saying it's not Voldermort would automatically make people think that it's Riddle. So it's probably someone seriously odd, who's mentioned in the second book but very little is said about. Or Hagrid.
The Mark Evans thing is seriously bugging me. I mean, why would she add a charactor with that surname, if they wern't related. Or, the over anyliseation(sp?) thing again. Either way, it's annoying.

Bloody cheek! I posted that earlier when I was half asleep but nobody thought it was important enough to comment on

It's actually a pretty good theory, but I dunno how Hagrid would branch out into some sort of royalty. Halfblood can mean half human half giant...but I dunno much about Hagrid to tell. ._.
