Although the singer is quite whiny, the instrumental pieces are marvellous. And although A Change Of Seasons has some of his singing, it's only for a few parts. If you're looking for a full instrumental song by them I would recommend Stream Of Conciousness or Overture 1928. Pull Me Under is another great song where the vocalist (ugh I still can't remember his name) doesn't sound too bad, the same with "Home".

The songs that I recommend the most by this band are: A Change Of Seasons, Pull Me Under, Home, Space Dye Vest, The Spirit Carries On (although it starts slow it has a great guitar solo by Petrucci), Under A Glass Moon, Stream Of Conciousness, and a few others.

I don't think Green Day is punk. And yes, we may have a different definition of rock but I believe your basing your decision on their song "My Immortal".

Yeah, they're awesome. :) Their album's called "Funeral"- not because any of the tracks are named that or related to that, but because many of their relatives passed away in the months before the album's release. Random trivia, haha.

The Arcade Fire always put on a nice show live, I've never actually heard the record, only seen them live. Haha.

Anything by Third Eye Blind is bound to jog someone into a good mood. I recommend some of Metric, stars, Hawksley Workman, Julie Black and various other Canadian bands.

The first one and the most recent one. The ones inbetween can serve as transitional ones, they've changed a lot. As in the first one is pretty heavy, and the last one is just good old rock.

Alkaline Trio's ok, too.

other good pop-punk bands- pennywise, descendants, screeching weasel, queers, mr t experience (they were on lookout! records)

Speaking of lookout, you'd probably like an older green day album, and if you wanted to experiment with ska, operation ivy is my favorite ska/punk band.

there has been a lot of good stuff mentioned (the post above caught my eye) so you have a lot of choices.
