Adam has in fact responded on these forums that he dislikes the ads as much as we do.

But yep neopets should take responsibility and check these ads so they don't get on there in the first place.

Yeah, that's really what peeves me off about it. It's not like "ehmegee they're up there and now allt he kiddies will be frieghtened forever." Getting them taken off is not the point. What irritates me is that they were ever there in the first place.

EDIT: Oh, and my sister (in 9-12) and her friend (in 8 and under) both saw the passion.com one too, so that blows the age group theory out of the water, eh?

I do realize that these ads are supposedly sorted by age, sex of player, location, but what Neo doesn't realize is that many parents sign up for an account as an adult and then let their little kid play the game with them. So, that the kid can have fun playing on the "internet," but mom (or dad) can keep an eye on them. The kids tend to play a few of the easy games, while the parent helps them by teaching them the game. Some moms will even sit the little kid (4-7 year old) on their lap and play Neo that way. I never did this with my daughter, but I do remember sitting her on my lap or next to me in a chair when she was 4, 5, 6 and playing Reader Rabbit or How Many Bugs in a Box with her. Letting her do the work, but helping to guide her with the game.

So, little eyes can see these ads even if the person who signed up for the account is an adult.

This is sickening. TNT must be lied to somewhere, because I'm sure none of them in their right mind would allow junk like this on their website. I imagine that the advertisers found a loophole in the contract, and the ads are slipping out unchecked.

Neopets needs to simply put a stop to the banner ads. They are going to have a lot of income with the movie and video game and who knows what else... well, then again, maybe they aren't because of the decline in members.

Think about it: is it really a smart move to put up horrible ads like this right before:

1. A huge windfall from selling to Viacom?
2. More and more plushies, TCG cards, and other merchandise on the shelves?
3. A whole series of video games?
4. A movie?

Couldn't they have waited it out, paid with their 'eight-figure' revenue for a year or so, maybe put more work into less costly things, like one plot or expansion instead of four or five, and NOT had banner ads? DOn't they get money from their sponsers?

I don't know. Neopets doesn't seem to be becoming a fad so much as a money-eating machine.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't "hate" the ads. They are a necessary evil in order to keep the game free. The company needs revenue. And, the ads provide revenue. But, like you said, they shouldn't put vulgar ads on the site. Particularly since this site is known to be so gosh-darned "family-friendly." There is a bucket full of advertisers out there. For some reason, Neo tends to go to the very bottom of that bucket--where only the nastiest, slimiest advertisers hang out.

Oh, and sunny, please don't kick Adam for any of these ads. He was the nicest guy in the world by breaking the news to PPT about them, way back when. And, letting us know how they were fixed so pages loaded faster, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't think he has much say in whether they are on the site or not. There are others above him that make the decisions about the ads. I am just happy that he thought enough of the PPT community to communicate with us about the ads.

Has this ad only just popped up for some users? Last week my sister was getting it all the time. Not only did she email neo to complain and use their as report form she closed out her account. So they have been getting reports about passion for at least a week.

Apparently now we know the wheels of neo grind exceedingly slow (even with July the 4th).

What beats me though is whoever thought that neo was a site where people would go to look for sex? :o

I'm under 13, so I don't need to worry about it at the moment.

But I agree. Neo is supposed to be family friendly. And like HisRadio, they're horrible at it. XD

Just an update that I reported the ad afew days ago but i've had no reply and it's still appearing, even more infact.

The worst thing is is it doesn't even look like a regular dating website it looks like a 'come here and meet up with someone for sex' website.

It's now been getting reported to them for at least a week and a half. So much for swift action.

Perhaps new ownership is causing more work behind the scenes than they are admitting to?
