As a few of you may have noticed, I have not been around much lately. I've tried, really I have, but my life is extremely hectic at the moment. On top of school being, well, school and work being dreadfully boring, I've been preparing for my new "sister". Okay, okay, so she's not really my sister, but I can pretend she is. My parents decided to host an exchange student and we've been frantically trying to get the house ready.
First of all, this new "addition" to the family is 17 and she's from Japan. She'll be staying with us for an entire school year. I'm extremely excited. Well, on top of being incredibly nervous. I think her and I will get along. She's an otaku deep down, I just know it!

Anyway, that's what's going on. I've been cleaning the house for nearly two months now and nothing seems to stay tidy for more than a day. Now it's crunch time and I've got to work all weekend. Hopefully once she's settled in I can begin to flood the forums with my nonsense and moderate properly. Until then, I hope everyone has been well and I really do try to read and log in as much as possible; although, that doesn't seem to be very often as of lately. ><

Oh, and I think I might break down and read the Harry Potter series. Gah... I feel guilty already.

As part of an exchange program a looooooong time ago, I hosted a Japanese exchange student. He was ultra conservative, drank only juice, played cards, and took NZ pencils back as gifts for his class.

When it came to the part where we would go over on exchange, I wasn't allowed to because of my 'bad attitude'. Yet I wasn't one of the people that went and got drunk on vending machine beer and threw up in his host families home.

[/end rant]

If she is an otaku, have fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.

Aw, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Well, I'm not going to Japan after she leaves, but I have been taking to her for the better part of the last three or four months. She's not horribly conservative. She's quite nice and we are going to Anime Fest with my dad during her first break from school. I think everything will be fine. ;P

Oh wow. That sounds awesome! I wish my parents would let me host an exchange student. Do you guys talk to each other in English or Japanese (probably both, I'd guess)?
And where is she going to go to school?

Oh, well have fun! My friend's family also hosted a girl from Japan a little over a year ago. I'm sure it'll be an interesting experience that you'll remember for the rest of your life. :)

OMGSH! Was that friend me? :o

:P I've hosted Japanese exchange students from an all-girls high school in Nagano for a few years, and I'm going to be an exchange student next year. :)

If you want to feel super special, then yes. :)
Actually, it was my friend Jessica, but shhhhh.

And Amethyst, I wish I could host an exhange student too! *sigh* But that's sort of hard in a small apartment, unless they sleep in my kitchen. I don't think they'd like that very much though.

I'd pay billions to have a 17 year-old Japanese girl as exchange student in my house! :battar:

AFI_Sorrow: Oh, I'm sure we will. It should be really fun. I think she's as excited as we are. I'm glad she's fairly close to my age as well. It wouldn't be quite as fun with someone a lot younger than me.

vkceankraz : Ah, we speak to each other in English, but I am finally getting around to taking my Japanese class at school, so maybe by the end of her visit I can at least pretend to know Japanese. ;D

Igg : Yes, I think so. Well... which one are you thinking of? >>

Amethyst : We have one spare room. It's actually a bit bigger than my room, but then again, I have a huge walk in closet with a desk in it. ;D We semi redecorated the guest room and had to go buy tons of furniture and such for her. Thank god I work at CVS. 25$ student desks are a god send!

o_0 : I'm jealous! I want to go to Japan!
Well, this particular exchange student is from Oita. She doesn't go to an all girls school, but her uniform is extremely Sailor Moonish. It's adorable.

Stijn : No dirty thoughts in my thread, mister.

That sounds exciting, I hope you'll have a great year with her :D

I want to host an exchange student :P

... actually I might have to think twice about that... We don't have spare rooms (the store room which used to be for my domestic helper, who left now, is now a store room again). And my bad habit of messing the place up would come up in two weeks time, after I tidied my room. *looks around* T'chya, it's already floating >_<

I will feel sorry for the exchange student we ever get to host one. *facepalms*

Actually, it'd just be really cool to have an exchange student. ^__^ I've had a couple, but they were all from Germany. Someone from the other side of the world would be more interesting. :)

It sounds like fun. I'm not the type to live with someone a barely know for a whole year. I hope you and your exchange student get along well and have lots of fun!

Wow, sounds like fun. I unfortunately don't think my high school participated in any sort of foreign exchange program. It would have been pretty neat meeting people who live in/come from different countries, seeing how I rarely manage to get out of this state.

Wait, you mean the one in Dallas? o_o
