Didn't you get some kind of wax to put on the braces to prevent them from cutting into your lip? I got it and it really worked ^^;

Oh that wax does wonders. I had braces for oh about, five or so years. It only hurt probably the first month I had them. Eating was a pain, but after a while, the pain really does go away. You just aren't used to something on your teeth.
Braces really aren't that bad. They have cut my lip a few times, but ask your orthodontist for some wax if he hasn't given it to you already. :)

And good luck to Ammy with her braces and everyone getting braces!

I tried to put the wax on it, but the bottom of the tooth comes down to the top of my gums because it's wierd. It's also at an odd angle, so the point of the bracket keeps poking through the wax, and then I have a huge lump of wax in my teeth-_-

I've been taking some painkillers, and the soreness isn't as bad now. I have a huge blister on the inside of my lip, though.

I feel your pain. Literally. I've got braces (I've had them for nearly a year now) and I have to wear rubber bands all of the time and headgear at night for several months on top of that. It's pretty painful when you first get them on and when you go back to get them tightened/have your brackets changed/whatever, but the pain wears off after a little while, and you get used to them. I remember my gums being sore a lot too when I first got them on, and I had a few cold sores in my mouth for a couple of days, but they went away eventually, and I only get them once in a while now.

It's... interesting. Sometimes I can't sleep because of it, sometimes I forget that I'm wearing it completely. The way it works is kinda hard to explain. There's a metal thing that hooks into two brackets inside of your mouth, and that hooks onto this band thing that wraps around the back of your head. It can be a little annoying sometimes, because it'll choose to make my teeth ache, or the plastic things that are on the band that wraps around my head will start irritating my skin because they cut into it. I've got to wear it for 12 hours a day, too, which is a pain.

Weird, my teeth didn't hurt THAT bad when I got my braces on o_o.

I hate icees and ice cream when I got my braces on though and they seemed fine lol. You'll get used to it in a few days and it doesn't hurt that much when they get tightened.

Just wait until you get the rubber bands :P. Now those hurt, if you leave them in long enough (overnight, for example.)

Oy. This is great... I got spacers today and on Monday I'm getting my braces on. The spacers are the worst part of the process, I've been told, but now I'm not so sure that that is true. Which is worse, braces or spacers/separators?

Hi.

I think I'm the only person who didn't feel any pain with their spacers. I didn't even notice they were there, honestly. Although all my friends said they hurt a lot.

I'd have to say braces though.

Okay, I just got the wire put on today.

OWWWWWWWWW! Not to scare anyone, but it feels like someone's slowly ripping all of my teeth out at once. If I put any pressure on them at all, it hurts like crazy. Looks like I'll be living off soup for at least a week....-sigh-

And to make matters worse, one of my brackets popped off 5 minutes after I got home -_-

:( I'm sorry! I just got my braces on about two weeks ago. Although I still dispise the orthodontist, it does get better. I would recommend ice cream as well as soup. Ice cream! :D Anyway, I feel your pain (well, not at the moment, but I do on and off sometimes).

Ah, so you had your first bracket pop off? I've only had it happened once, I'm surprised yours popped off so soon. *hug*
It really does get better. The first few days are the worst, but soon you'll forget it's even there. And just think, once they're off, they're over! They'll be done with and you'll have a beautiful smile. ^-^

*shakes* I get mine on Tuesday and I'm scared because I've started my new job mentoring today and the little girl I'm taking care of is so active and hyperactive. When I get these braces on, it'll be even worse as I'll be literally running around after her!

That happened to me as well. The very day I got the wire on, a bracket popped off. On the other hand, it was the only bracket I lost the entire time I had my braces.

I don't think braces hurt THAT much! By the second day, the pain from chewing was already subsiding... and I could still chew the first day (maybe I just love food too much).

One of my brackets popped off when I bit a fork vertically and it went in between my teeth. That hurt :(.

Yeah, mine pop off all the time, they'll just glue it back on the next time you go. Yeah, it hurts, but it eventually goes away, really
