I can't really give you advice but this is sort of the teaching I get:
My teacher tells me to play through the right hand.
I look at the notes and do so.
Wherever I go wrong she puts her finger on the key I should have played.
I repeat that bar and carry on.
(I usually only do 50 bars or so of a piece per lesson)
Then when I'm done. I go through again and play the whole thing.
She circles the notes on the manuscript where I went wrong.
Same thing with the left hand.
With trickier bits, she plays the bar/phrase one octave down slowly to show me the fingering.
Once I've got both hands sorted, she plays the left hand whilst I play the right hand and then vice versa. Then I put the two together.
That's about it...
Ack. My teacher sometimes misses the mistakes that I make (before my exam, I found and E flat that I had be playing E natural for like 4 months. I had to correct it in three days to be right for the exam)
And sometimes she tells me that I've made a mistake when I haven't!!
I'm planning to switch teachers... *shrugs*, but it'll be hard to say though.
