Somebody help me!
My cat for some reason just peed on my bed and I need a way to make sure it's not going to start funking up like cat pee does.

I've read that water and vinegar works, but I hate the smell of vinegar too... If I use vinegar and water.. how much vinegar and water? Will the vinegar smell go away quickly or will I have to suffer with it for a while?

Home remedies are prefered cause it's pretty late right now.

Any help would be appreciated!

Two suggestions:
Quote:
Mix 1 part water to 3 parts vinegar. Then dampen the area that was urinated on, with the vinegar-water solution. DON'T BLOT. Here is where most people go wrong. Place something semi-heavy that won't absorb the solution, like a large laminated book, on top of the area you are treating. Let the spot dry. Most people don't put anything over it and then the vinegar just evaporates without taking away the urine smell. But if you do place something on top of it the vinegar will have time to neutralize and evaporate the urine. It will take some time for it to dry, several hours. When it is all dry treat the area again, but with 3 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Don't forget to put something over it. After it has dried for the second time, the urine smell should be gone. It may take a couple of days for the vinegar smell to go away. This really does work though.

Try this one, it's all in your home, it was used back when dogs would get skunked.
15oz of hydrogen peroxide 3%
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2drops of liquid hand soap
mix in plastic container, with plastic spoon, do not store in closed container, make and use fresh, I had a 2 yr old spot and could not not get rid of it, after many dollars on store bought stuff, a friend told me her grandmother used this and to try it. Well I did, and wow, gone the stain and smell, took a smell test before and 1 hour after what a difference, I did paint my sub floor with a shelac base primer by Zinsser Good Luck...

From da web.

Yeah I saw those but just wanted some more options just in case .
My bf scrubbed the area with fabric cleaning stuff.. will that make any difference if I still use the water/vinegar method? Anyone know?

when that happens with my cat I do the first vinigar thing that shapu suggested and then I spray fabric cleaner around the area, not on it but around it.

My cat did that (little brat), and I bleached the area. The smell went within a few seconds, and it was clean.

Febreeze works good too, if you can get that. I think they even make some for pet odors. They have this one kind that smells really good, like flowers. And then of course there is the dollar store version of Febreeze that smells every bit as good, if not a tad bit stronger.

Also, do keep in mind that even if you can't smell it anymore, your cat probably still can, and there's a decent chance he or she will keep doing it. (Cats will pee pretty much anyplace that smells like cat pee to them.) I've lost a few couches in my life that way... you may just want to keep the cat out of your bedroom to keep it from happening again.

As for why your cat did this, is he or she neutered/spayed? Not being spayed/neutered, stress, and illness are the most common reasons for cats using something other than the litterbox.

My cat was thoroughly fixed yet she still peed anywhere in the hallway/house/universe she felt like.

I would go with the restriction of bedroom priviledges for the kitty though.

Well.. I dunno about putting bleach on cat pee.. isn't bleach and ammonia deadly together :P heh

But yeah.. my cat is spayed. I have no idea why she did it. She's healthy as far as I can tell, her cat box is fine, we haven't tortured her or anything to make her want to punish us :P heh
Actually we've been giving her alot of attention.

We don't let any of our animals into our bedroom without us being in there. And then it's only for a few minutes. We don't let them in there for long mainly b/c of fleas. Nothing worse than getting eaten up while you're trying to sleep.
But anywho....
She would jump up on the bed and lay down... never gave the impression of wanting to pee on it.
But this time.. she jumped up and immediately started. I didn't even realize what she was doing until I finally noticed the way she was positioned.

Only thing I can think of that might've upset our kitty is opening up this back room that she slept in most of the time. The door to it has glass panels.. and one of them was taken out so she could jump in and out of the room as she pleased.
We leave the door open to it now to cool it down since we don't have our central air on anymore.
Could be mad that she doesn't have her privacy back there any longer. *shrugs*
Oh well.. she's just gonna have to get used to it if that's what her problem is. :P

I think the only reason my cat peed was because I brought new scented candles that day. And cause it didnt smell of his scent anymore, he wanted to make sure it did lol
