I live in a duplex, and my neighbours are just really nasty. First off, the cursing and yelling. The father in that part of the house yells and curses day and night. He's taught his two young sons some really nasty words, who in turn taught them to my six year old sister, and I fear for their poor baby. And he'll yell at his sons in the middle of the night, which smurfs me off.

Oh, and there's also the fact that my other neighbour was banned from his property because she pushed him aside as he was yelling at her because her son told his son to shut up. Well Mssr., you curse at your 7, 8, maybe 9 year old sons a lot, and shut up is not as bad as, say, sonofa-censored- (I'm guessing you can figure that censored word out for yourself).

Oh, and did I mention their pets? They always either run away (dog, hermit crab, etc.), die (hermit crab, fish), or get 'set free' even though there are tons of hungry feral cats milling about (bunny, and probably more). There were more whom I don't know what happened to them (their cat). Their last pet was a bunny; whom they set free and recently (a couple of weeks after the rabbit was set free, and either starved, got eaten by cats, or drowned) got a gerbil. -sigh- They are completely unfit to have pets, and I loathe it so when my sister pops in saying, 'Oh, the neighbours got a new soandso! Wanna see?' Then a few weeks later, 'They set their soandso free/Their soandso died/Their soandso ran away! =O' Pfft. [/end rant]

Well, if they're screaming in the middle of the night, have you ever thought about maybe calling the police on them...? I'm not really sure what you can do other than that, because he's obviously not going to shut up if you ask him to.

You could also start complaining to your landlord about the noise. Assuming you're a good tenant, they'll likely want to try to please you in order to keep you rather than trying their luck with a tenant that'll tear the place up. Try that first, and if it continues, start calling the police. Most towns have noise ordinances. You might want to research the one for your area, so you'll know when you can call the police for noise violations and when you can't (ie what time the ordinance is in effect as well as what constitutes a noise violation).

My neighbour is something smiliar to yours, except that the wife was screaming and crying at the top of her voice. She will scream at her children, her husband and I seldom hear her husband voice.

At one time, my toilet floor was leaking into her toilet ceiling, so she complained to our town coucil. When the contractors came to her house, she will slam her door at them because they did not make an appointment with her. Crazy fellow.

Where I'm living at the moment, the house next door is rented and has had a succession of tenants over the past few years.

By far the best were the collection of female university students who kept locking themselves out of the house and asking me to climb in through a bedroom window :D Though they did play loud music into the early hours of the morning it was worth the hassle.

Then it went a bit downhill - next was a family where the parents used to continually argue it seemed. The woman was so unbelieveably loud, she once carried on a shouting match for over 4 hours, and could be heard screaming obscenities from the other end of the street. Fortunately they left, and were replaced by people much quieter who only shout and swear at their kids once or twice a week which frankly is bliss.

That's a shame. You know, everybody needs good neighbours.
I guess with a little understanding, you can find the perfect blend. Then good neighbours will become good friends :)

*Clubs you*

Any chance of you actively rescuing their pets and moving them on to the SPCA?

Neighbours should be there for one another.

Consider it as your daily intake of irrational violence.

Take it to PMs, guys, or you'll both be facing violence.

Have you ever tried contacting animal humanes societies (or whatever they're called) yet? They could get in deep trouble for mistreating all of those pets, too. I'm not familiar with the child abuse laws very much, but seeing how the guy yells obsenities at his children that often, he would get in some serious problems with that, too.
