Is it genus? I think it's genus...Let's see...Canis lupus, Canis latrans, Canis familiar...but then the dolphins and killer whales are in different genuses (genii?)...and camels and llamas are in differing genuses but the same family...so I think the requirement is, they must be in the same family.

But then that wouldn't explain why we don't see any cute little dog-fox or wolf-fox hybrids. And, also following that theory, humans could mate with chimps and gorillas...and that just ain't right.

I guess for some species the requirement is they must be from the same genus, and for others it's just the same family.

If that happens (assuming that a human volunteers, which I doubt) and the humans provide the female, I'd feel sorry for the mother who has to give birth to gorilla-sized babies x.X

To breed, the rules tend to be the same genus, I do believe. For fertile offspring, they must be of the same species. However, taxonomy is just rules we make up and apply to biology, which is very complicated and doesn't exactly follow our defined rules of classification.

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

And yet, there are cases where crossbreeds like Mules and Ligers have bred, and have had young.
It's just very rare.
Very... very... rare.
