I've tried Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, WinDVD Player and Quicktime; none are working for this Avi. I think it has menu choices at the beginning, is the problem, and they don't have that capability.

Maybe it's a codec problem?

Gone, forever.

. avi files require a codec, and a decent media player. WMP 10 would suffice.

Okay, I have downloaded WMP 10. Now... how do I get a 'codec'? *feels like an idiot*

I have Windows Media Player 9, and I can run AVIs. It's most likely a codec problem.

I would also recommend this player. As well as Windows Media Player Classic.

If it helps, this is what a .avi file is...

.AVI Audio Video Interleave File (IrfanView) (DivX)

I use mplayer2.exe for most of my files, because it's nice and quick, but windows media player 9 for others. When an AVI file is giving me trouble, I use DivX (http://www.divx.com).

I never use Real One or any of the other overcommercialized junk programs out there...just because.
