I'm not a huge card player but the ones I usually play (when I was at work and occasionally when I'm bored) are War, that Egyptian What's-it-called-game (it's called something different around here, but in essence, it's the same as the others mentioned), War, Texas Hold'em, Rummy, Tripoley, and some other game that I can't mention on here.

Texas Hold'em is probably my favorite, along with other poker games. I also like BS, Solitare, Uno, Spoons, Egyptian Rat-Screw (or whatever it's called), and some other assorted games.
And I agree with whoever said Apples to Apples. We used to play that a lot during school when didn't have anything to do...

I like Euchre the best 
- Any and ALL versions (bid, 3 player, screw the dealer etc...) of it and I can play it for days and days and NEVER get tired of it!! Woohoo! - Oh sorry.....
Next I like:
Spades
Hearts
Bridge
Canasta
speed
spit
skip-Bo
most poker games but especially blackjack and 7 card stud
War
Spoons
solitare - any of them will do but I really like bathroom solitare. I'm sure it has a different real name but we (people in my neighborhood/school) always called it that because you could be sitting on the potty and still be able to play it!
Yes, it pretty much is the opening layout. One of them starts out with a layout like solitare and the other you have in a diamond type start. I used to play both of them a lot in elementary school (heh, which was about 25 years ago). Good to know that they're still around!

Oh man, Spit owns. You should see how crazy my friends and i get when we play. it's really crazy. one of my friends just leanred spit like a few days ago and she was so addicted to it.

Speed is the only card game I regularly play with a buddy, or at all, for that matter.
