Aww, when I read the topic title I was thinking this would be a brush so that people could make up their own custom colour name to go in place of the actual colour name they have or something. :P That'd be interesting.

I doubt a pet rename thing is possible though, it would probably cause database problems or be difficult to do. I wouldn't mind altering at least one pet name slightly though, just to capitalize it..

If it were an item... what do you think the chances are we'd actually be able to afford it for a decent price?

If ANYTHING is like the newbie Paint Brushes, I will inroduce the Neopets crew the REAL version of whack-a-staff. :x That was such an UNFAIR thing. Most of us newbies got a book, maybe a toy and some food. That was it. And now these newbies are getting PB's?! I know they can't be traded but I would've liked to have experimented with color.

Ah well when you think about it is it really that bad that you couldn't paint your pet a basic colour?

I don't see what's so wrong with that. I never even got a newbie pack, and I'm not complaining. And they're just basic colors... you can easily create a pet in one of those colors.

Anyway, even if a name brush isn't possible, I sort of wish they made a way so that you can at least change the case (upper case/lower case) of the letters in a pet's name.

What if someone stole your pet and renamed it?

The only way I could see this as working is if the pet's old name was also mentioned somewhere on the lookup. That way, if a pet has been scammed, the scammer would have to 'repaint' twice just to get rid of any evidence of the old name. And if the PB is expensive, it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Or, you could even mention all of the previous names and when they were changed. That would solve a whole lotta problems.

Thats actually a pretty cool idea. I think it would work better as a potion (just because I dont know how you would DRAW a name brush lol)

Basically, it works just like a regular paint brush, but instead of paint ing your pet, it gives you the ability to rename it!

Now that's just silly don't you think? A paint brush changing your pets name?... I think if an item like that is ever created, (which I really doubt,) it'll be more along the lines of a special faerie, pen, card or a pile of forms... I admit to Neo being out there but I don't think even they're insane enough to create the "Name Brush".
To those that disagree with me. Please do not argue/yell with/at me for stating my opinion for I am allowed to have it and post it. There are those that agree and those that disagree. Leave it at that.

that could have been phrased with a little less... hostility o_O
i think it's a great idea ^^
Submit the idea to TNT!

Doesn't GoPets do something like this? I mean I seem to recall (when I tried it once) they have a little floating pop up box that shows your pet stats, and the name box you can change however often you want?

Perhaps it would create a huge strain on the database to have pets changed to something once, or over and over again. And I don't know much (ok really nothing) about coding, but a one time change to allow this in the future might be something to consider. However I agree TNT seems to have so many other things they are working on (and not the budget to do it, despite being bought by huge companies that can afford to spend lots on 'nothing' ahem). Perhaps somehow they could attach a hidden unique identifier string of long numbers for each pet and then impliment some extra tool for us to change the name associated with it, at our whim?

Who out there in programming land might have an easy/cheap solution?

Subeta pets does. You can purchase a $15 item from their donation shop to change your pet's name. It's still a relatively small site though, and I can't imagine what it would be like on Neo. You can't have more than one account on Subeta, and people don't get frozen or banned as often as they do on neo for whatever reason. So, I'd imagine they don't have as many probems as Neo would with shifting pets around. In any case, it's not something I'd expect them to do for free when we still don't have a fifth pet slot.

Actually, I have to agree with it. Its been said before, that changing your pets name, once they've been created, would just cause too much strain on the database. Sides, if you don't like your pets name, get rid of it.

You can only have one account on Subeta because you have to buy pet slots after the 10th one, and you can only get 10 with their 'gold account'.

Also, Subeta's database is ENTIRELY different. Pets are identified by numbers in the database, which makes it easier to change the name associated to that number.

On Neopets, pets are identified by name in the database, so therefore it would be much more difficult to change the name assigned to the neopet. Like mentioned before, the pet's species, stats, gender, color and lookup, trophies, petpage and everything associated to that part of the database would have to be copied, then assigned to a new name with the 'old' version of the pet deleted. This could create a bunch of glitches too, maybe even a 'cloning neopet' glitch.

Much more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. ^^";
