The storm's track currently is headed straight at New Orleans. If it shifts a bit to the east, New Orleans is really in trouble. The lake right next to the city will start sending even more water in if that happens.
I'm really getting quite a bad feeling about this.
If things continue how they are, I think there could be quite a few lives lost. There's a shockingly large amount of people in New Orleans who decided to just ride this out- not a good decision.
Now only do you have the flooding and wind, you also could have no clean drinking water, disease, rats, snakes. Not a pretty sight.

Whoa, category five right now.. this is going to be a hugee problem
Supposedly the storm is starting to move north instead of northwest, proving that the storm will turn as expected and hit New Orleans hard. I feel bad for everyone down there. Hope you guys are safe or have already evacuated!

Does anybody know what happens to zoos when a massive doomsday hurricane comes rolling around? I can't imagine they go out of their way to rescue the animals, so what happens to them? I'm just picturing Nawleans flooded 30 feet, and a gigantic orca whale splashing through the debris-covered streets.

I hope he's alright, it's horrible to lose a loved one. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and everyone in the storm's path.

Well, I heard a story about a dolphin aquarium that was right on the coast. They turned a pool of a hotel that was more inland into salt water, and put the dolphins there. But as for other animals, lots of exibits in zoos are made of concrete, and I'm sure the zookeepers brought the animals inside, but I think the zoos are more concerned about their own well being and probably leave food for the animals and just leave.

I sure hope after the hurricane is over things get back on track quickly again, and that the damage is as small as possible.
Fun thing is my middle name is Katrina

I had a really bad feeling about this thing. As soon as they said it was heading toward New Orleans, I thought, "Holy (you-know-what)!" It's things like this that make me glad to live in Chicago.

Taken from AOL News:
Katrina hits US Gulf Coast hard, flooding New Orleans and killing at least 55 people.
New Orleans was spared a direct hit, but the clean-up is expected to cost £14 billion.

According to Yahoo! News, the death toll is supposed to rise past 80 (the current number). I couldn't finish reading the article because it was too terrifying and tragic.
And of all things, people are looting the French Quarter and such places. It makes me so sick.
