Er, because it's the English name for it.

Same reason we call Rome Rome, and not Roma.

And Hungary Hungary, instead of Magyaroság. Though I have probably spelled it wrong.

Point. Understood.

Firenze sounds cooler though.

Dunno... I've lived in Italy all my life and I've never seen a hole toilet in a restaurant o_O let alone in Firenze. But I've been only 1 day in Firenze so...

Hehe, I was typing Florence by mistake :P

Then there's the other side of things.
Who ever said a restaurant?
Frankly I normally avoided seedy places in the middle of no where (like I do where I live anywhere), so I used pay toilets which to me were always clean... except when it couldn't be avoided.

See, I could never justify paying for the washrooms.

Maybe its just me, but I think its one of those inalienable rights that those kooky guys trapped in Guat-Mo keep whining about.

What happens if, in a purely hypthetical situation, someone just happens to be a shy peeer. pee-er. peer. urinator. (Kind of like some crappy action hero. The Urinator. "I'll Pee Back") What if the stars just aren't lining up and they can't go right now? Can they ask for their money back? Is it possible to get a refund? Maybe credit it for sometime in the future.

Also, I never saw one of these but my sister encountered a few. Its the wiper ladies who wipe the seats for people in between uses. See, I can see where the money is going and its understandable. I just want to know where these people go to get these jobs. Can you just leave your resumee in the stall? Does it work like that?

Maybe that's what all the writing on the wall in Germany was! It wasn't some promiscuous dude leaving his mark... it was a reference number!

And what kind of experience do you need to be a seat wiper?

"Have you ever worked in this field before?"
"No, but my last boss was a real butt head if that counts."

No, but my mom got pooped on by a pigeon so I think that makes up for it.

Thank you. I love my country too :)

I've been to Amsterdam, tomatie. Only on layovers, but they've been about 6 hours once or twice, so I've been into the city a couple of times. The first time I was hideously sick every 10 minutes or so until I could vomit no more.

The second time I spent it in the british consulate in Amsterdam, trying to get my mother and I temporary passports after she left her handbag on a bus.

I hardly use public toilets. ._. I just hold it for 20 or so hours until I get to the hotel/apartment complex where I'm staying. For some odd reason, I've never gotten used to going to the bathroom around others. :-/

You've clearly never been in the middle of a busy town/city and really needed a wee.

I noticed lots of, "hey you're a child. Its ok if you pee in public."

My favourite was on the grounds of some castle in Austria where a family stading in the centre of the grounds kindly dug a little pit and held their daughter over it. Oh so classy.

I do that too. And it's even more completely awful in college. I just cannot pee if there's anyone even remotely in/around the bathroom. Not fun sometimes. :P
