Please whack me with a large stick if this has already been addressed but has there ever been any plans to add more usergroups to the forum? I love the ones that are accessible by all us regular folk but it would be nice to see possibly a few more. :battar: Thanks!

Back on the old forums, we actually had a number of usergroups that we don't have now. However, they have a public board instead of them, so the need for those usergroups is gone.

I'm not a mod/admin, but I'm guessing that we probably won't have any more usergroups. The ones that are here are there for a reason, whether they be Guys/Divas, Debate, or boards required for site staff (PI, Podcasting, Mods, etc).

Out of curiousity, what kind of usergroups were you thinking of?

Gone, forever.

I was hoping for usergroups that people could join ie: Like a group for high school students or college students. Or possibly start something like diffrent clubs or something like that. I don't know, I was just wondering if we were going to see any new ones in the future or for that case ever.

My only question is why do we need more?
Everything that can be discussed in any non existant user groups I assume can be discussed elsewhere in the forums.
*shrugs*

I was thinking it would be nice to have an adult usergroup where more mature topics could be discussed without the fear of young children reading it but I guess it would be very easy to lie about your age just to access the group. *shrugs*

Then it would be the child's fault. Always think of it that way :P

Excuse me, being a "young child", as you say, does not make you incompetent to understand "mature topics".

*sigh*

1. Dawn, you're not a young child.
2. Yes it does, often, no matter what they think.

There is really no reason to be affronted, but if you insist, ignore me and go right ahead.

Even if I did think that young children were perfectly capable of handling mature topics, my opinion is not what matters. PPT has to deal with appalled parents when they find out that little Jimmy has been discussing things they don't want him to even be thinking about the next 5 years.

Out of curiosity, but how often do PPT mods and admins recieve angry emails from parents? I'm going a bit off topic, but I was always curious about this :P

That's not relevant. Jim could be recieving 100 emails a day because discussions of Abortion are in the debate board. The only thing that is relevant is that it could and probably would if their perfect daughter with A* grades and 0% abscence from school is learning about topics which are generally unspeakable on a child orientated family site.

The actual reality of having a "16+" or "18+" usergroup is ludicrous. Moderators would have to scrutinise and practically interrogate anyone who they're not familiar with. Most moderators know who is over 16/18, and who isn't. It's the people who join and apply, who can easily lie about their age.

The chance of it actually happening is none at all, this is a Neopet's forum.

PS. The "mature board" is the Debate Board. Discussion for Politics, Religion, sexual orientation etc are allowed.

Wow. Well, I was looking for more of a uhh.... numerical answer, something like, 'ohh about 10 a day', but that'll do I guess :P

And I have to agree with you here on that one, 16+ and 18+ Usergroups are pointless, and more of a hassle than a help.

Having a board for long time posters may give some members a feeling of supremecy above others, so that's also out of the question I guess.

I reckon the setup we have now is good. Either way, the Usergroup boards are almost as dead as the P&P board. Adding more of them would probably just spread that inactivity out.

Luckily there is some sort of a screening process for the Debate Board.

I'm not entirely sure if that's all Twinkle meant by Mature Topics, however. I'm not sure she meant them in a purely debate-type sense.

There's some scope for it, but probably not enough. I see where she's coming from.

Tis true. My Olds would pitch a fit.

Adults only age group isnt going to happen. Ever. Fullstop/period whatever. Neither are any age groups of any kind. I have always been quietly pleased that I am in a position which allows me to help people of all ages/credes/nationalities/sexes/species communicate with each other on an equal footing. Im not going to throw that away. The minimal segregation that currently exists by way of the debate group is as far as I and the other staff are prepared to go.

Fin.

And nope, there are currently no plans for any new usergroups ( by which I believe you mostly mean extra private boards ) to be made. This is not to say that there never will be, but just not now.

Yeah, I meant the extra private board, thanks for letting me know and thank you everyone else for your help :)
