That picture makes me sick. Taking food/water is one thing, taking expensive clothing and shoes is another.

No kidding...
As much as I feel bad for the people who have lost their lives, loved ones, their homes etc...

All I can think about are these selfish @*(! looters.
It makes me physically ill just thinking about these sorry excuses of LOSERS who do this sort of crap at a time like this.
NM about the people who died or who are now homeless.... Let's go steal some shoes and jewelry and guns!!!

SORRY PIECES OF CRAP!!!!!

I hope they rot in hell.... I hope karma comes and bites them all right in their @**&& and they get thrown in jail and become a special friend of some big sweaty man or woman.

God that just boils my blood!!!

This has really gotten out of control. Now people are shoot at/stopping emergency helecopters and ambulances. I mean, I know people are desperate to get out of the city, but some are taking it too far and trying to hijack ambulances. And they can't fly over the superdome because they get shot at. There are rumors of people being raped inside and all other sorts of evil things going on in the streets. It is basically anarchy below and anyone who ever wanted to do some stuff is taking advantage of the opportunity.

Gotta love how civalized we are..................

Guess we're going to be seeing riot police in there sooner or later if this crap keeps going on.

I know it's bad to wish physical harm on others... but I really wish something would happen to those idiots doing this crap... I really do.

Now I don't feel so bad for not liking people.....

What doesn't sit right with me is how almost all the images we see of people lotting etc. are of black people. When we know that that isn't the case.

Nevermind though. :|

Louisiana has a lot of black people so that's probably why there are lot more shown in pictures. Poor people would have a tendency to stay more and try to salvage their belongings others would have left, most lower class in Louisiana is probably black. I'm not sure, and I could be wrong, just an assumption made from what is true around other areas.

I don't think we can say that those looting are awful "sorry pieces of crap" and I would refrain from using those kinds of adjectives to describe people. We don't know their situation or their state of mind, who knows maybe they are thinking of using those items to barter for more important things later. I'm not being extremely optimistic here, unless you are faced with a situation like this were looting is actually a necessity sometimes you can't make assumptions like that.

Hopefully we can all contribute somehow to the support those agencies which are providing some type of relief to this city. I know my coworker is devasted from the destruction her home town has gone through, a lot of those who haven't been hit by the hurricane here are being very insensitive of what has happened. This is going to take a while to bring back to normal, schools are closed for at least two months. People aren't being allowed to go back to their homes for at least a month. It's an awful shame that the mentality of some of these people is so desperate that they are shooting those who are trying to offer aid.

If you're wanting some numbers...

According to 2000 Census data, 32.5% of Louisiana's population is black or African American. This is in comparison to just 12.3% of the US population as a whole falling under that category. (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/22000.html) Moroever, 67.3% of New Orleans' population is black/African American.

While I'm certain there are also plenty of racist reasons that pretty much all the images of looters are black, there are also some non-racist reasons, given that black/African Americans are the majority in that area.

This hurricane has just been horrible. I live in south Florida so I've been through quite a few hurricanes in the last few years but the damage that happened in New Orleans just...blows me out of the water (and I'm not wording it that way to be funny). Seriously. I can't believe it.

And all the looting..I mean, I can understand the looting of food and water and goods. Hell, I'd encourage it if it wasn't the law. But sometimes there are just circumstances where the law just shouldn't apply and I would say this is one of those circumstances.

But seriously...stealing electronics from Walmart?! When there's going to be no power in New Orleans until they can even drain the water out, I mean honestly people... some of the things these people are stealing just isn't making sense.

My heart just goes out to all the victims of this hurricane, because I know how devastating the effects of it have been. My school is raising money for the victims bu selling mardi gras beads for a little bit and then donating all the money to the red cross.

Woah, this really seems to be a lot worse than I thought it was. (According to American news anyway, I haven't seen any of my country's news stations say things like, fields are littered with dead decaying bodies, but anyway.)

Anyway, looting stores for food and water is one thing. Looting them for clothes, tv's and whatnot is another thing. But looting Hospitals? Shooting at helicopters trying to bring in supply and help evacuate people? I wish there was a way the people who did those bad things could be spotted, and left there to die.

I must admit I wasn't too impressed with the person who described it as 'america's tsunami'. While it's terrible and devastating, that really is just taking the proverbial.

It's sad really. The few pictures I have seen of white people looting come with the caption that they've "Found" the new loaf of bread or the new pair of sneakers *raises an eyebrow*

I'm sorry but I do think the people who are taking advantage of this disaster as a way to STEAL stuff they don't need.. such as the guns and electronics and jewelry are pieces of crap/scum and all of those other nice 4 letter words.
Looting it to barter with is giving the people doing this too much credit.

Instead of worrying about helping in whatever way they can whether it be helping the injured etc or just getting out of the way.. no they just go around and loot whatever they want and will probably get away with it.. THAT is what bugs me the most.
And I still don't understand the thought process in shooting at the helicopters that are trying to help you. o_O

Just all IMO.... disagree.. agree.. whatever.. it's up to you... I feel bad for the good people down there suffering.

It goes back to the Civil War, the north versus the south. Most of the black people lived in the south because they had a limited number of rights.

And about the looting...I guess they figure that desperate times call for desperate measures. I laughed when I heard about Walmart being looted. :P Serves them right. You gotta assume that everyone's all delirious from lack of sleep or lack of food.

And Igg, I agree. This is terrible but won't measure up to the tsunami. I hate when people compare things to devastating events like that. Like how PETA animal rights activists say slaughterhouses are like an 'animal holocaust.' Getting a little off topic here o_O.

Anyways, to rebuild the houses/buildings and getting out all the water is going to cost $25 BILLION at the least. And now the gas is like $6 a gallon in the south I think.

Bush (senior) and Clinton are going to visit the area and provide help. (They did the same for the tsunami) It's good that some people really are good at heart. (Well...sometimes. The looting on the other hand...)
