Just found out on the local news that hurricane refugees are being brought to the community center across the street from my building. It just feels a bit surreal, that now it's being brought into my backyard (almost literally).

I have previously stated that New Orleans was the place in the country where I would second-least like to live, but that doesn't mean I have no heart. Gods above.

As for photos of black people looting, on the MSNBC front page there have been black people rowing down the streets, black people in the Superdome, a black cop patting down a black looter - look, New Orleans has a lot of black people. Deal.

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

While watching television, a news anchor reported that some Islamic radicals had declared that "Private Katrina has joined the jihad army." My mom and I started cracking up. I know, it's a terrible thing to say, but the Islamic radicals always come up with cute little sayings like that. I guess it sounds a bit more intimidating in Arabic.

What's wrong with living in the south area where you get hurricanes?

Anyway, there's people stealing dead bodies now to get the money out of wallets. Which is grosss and icky.

As for the zoos, I remember last year in Florida they moved some big animals such as the orcras (sp?) and dolphins from the Tampa area, to futher inland to Sea World.

I find that hilarious as well. Apparently any disaster is either claimed by them (They blaimed the Tsunami on America, go figure) or they say it was a secret ploy to get more members. Idiots really.

---

As for the state of New Orleans, I was watching a news broadcast and I don't understand why gangs want to run the city. I mean, it's such a horrible tragedy which occured and to take advantage of it is even more horrible. I just hope the police secure the city and all the help is flown out. It hurts that people with babies are living without food and water.

And I believe they are sending in 40,000 troops to the city and buses will be arriving for two days straight to carry the thousands of passengers to Houston. I hope everything works out for the best!

If I lived near there and a family needed a place to stay, I'd for sure open my doors.

That happens in parts of Africa constantly. I'm not saying that you don't care about that, but I know for some people it's not an issue until they see it happening on their doorstep, and maybe they'll open their eyes a bit.

And that jihad thing is great. I'm holding out for Al Quaeda to 'admit' they caused the hurricane. Or claim it's God hating America...because America never got extreme weather conditions before.

I watched Inside Edition? I think it was.. and they were showing the line of people waiting to get on those buses.
It was just so heartbreaking b/c the ones they interviewed had been there for a day or more.
I can't even imagine what they're going through.

It has just been on the radio that a British man has only just been able to get in contact with his sister, who has just had a house built in New Orleans and is a nurse in the hospital, that her house has completely gone and she has had to be smuggled out of the hospital she works in by a doctor, such was the danger, since looters with guns have attacked the hospital, started shooting patients in thier beds, and raping the nurses. The patients have been left. The sister says the News is not telling us what is really going on, at least regarding the extent of the looting.

The Jihad thing amused me as well. Get a grip, people.

SaphEdit: As much as I agree with you. Misc Disc isn't the place for those sort of political discussions.

What doesn't sit right with me is how almost all the images we see of people lotting etc. are of black people. When we know that that isn't the case.

Nevermind though. :|

It goes back to the Civil War, the north versus the south. Most of the black people lived in the south because they had a limited number of rights.

And about the looting...I guess they figure that desperate times call for desperate measures. I laughed when I heard about Walmart being looted. :P Serves them right. You gotta assume that everyone's all delirious from lack of sleep or lack of food.

And Igg, I agree. This is terrible but won't measure up to the tsunami. I hate when people compare things to devastating events like that. Like how PETA animal rights activists say slaughterhouses are like an 'animal holocaust.' Getting a little off topic here o_O.

Anyways, to rebuild the houses/buildings and getting out all the water is going to cost $25 BILLION at the least. And now the gas is like $6 a gallon in the south I think.

Bush (senior) and Clinton are going to visit the area and provide help. (They did the same for the tsunami) It's good that some people really are good at heart. (Well...sometimes. The looting on the other hand...)

Not all the south. Georgia I know the gas is at least $6 a gallon but here in Florida we're just breaking $3 now.

I think I would be looting stores as well. The stuff is going to be ruined, anyways.

Well I know Georgia's prices are so high because there are a lot of oil refiniries in Louisiana and Mississippi- which are under water.

Oh, trust me, I know what you're saying. I was just again, talking about how it's hurtful that people are living in those conditions. I know it happens in Africa and I do feel incredibly sorry for people to live in such horrid conditions. No one deserves to live without water in a hot country.

But my statement is the same for the citizens of Africa, even if I didn't direct it towards it, it's how I feel about anyone living in those conditions.

personally im tired with allthis catrina talk, i live like 2 states away from where it majorly hit and we didnt even get clouds, but they should make a channel on TV or the radio that talks about all tis stuff, because i havnt heard any news like if a hotel caught on fire, but last ngith on the news some rookie for some baseball team hit a grandslam in his first major leage game... and the crime rate in Dallas Texas, where all the hurricane victams have ben moved to,the crime rate has jumped 2 percent since then.....
