I'm interested in buying a laptop and I recently found on with good spec at quite a low price. The brand was acer, which I haven't had any experience with in the past, and I just wanted to double-check with the enlightened doods if I'm making a good choice. :)

My laptop is Acer and it is uber-awesome. They are the third biggest laptop maufacturer in the world, from Germany and are incredibly robust and problem free. They always get top reviews so make sure you google them to find out those. The only one of theirs I've seen not so good reviews of are the Ferrari ones and that's just because they are overpriced due to the Ferrari colours and permission etc.

Mine has an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ processor so speaking from experience I know that they are great but my friend has one of the more normal pentium ones and she was well chuffed with it until her other friend spilled coffee on it :o It still works though xD

I would definitely recommend them, they are amazing value for money especially and seem to have no disadvantages compared to the likes of Sony save for having a slightly less well known name. They're also not as bulky as I thought they were, I don't think you get ultra slim line ones but they are the same thickness as the Vaio's I've seen though slightly more heavy I think. Not really noticable though.

...heh, can you tell I love my laptop? <3 Good luck deciding on your laptop :D

From experience with my cousin's Acer, it's durable. I love it.

I believe Acer is the #1 notebook in Hong Kong..

o.O They are? The only time I've ever heard of them before this was an article about good laptops that aren't brand-name.

I might get one if I can't get an Apple when I go to college.

Yup they are :) Last I read they were the third biggest laptop manufacturer and in the top 5 branded PC vendors overall. I'd never heard of them before I looked into getting a laptop properly but given how much advertising space is given over to people like Dell and non-online shops, as well as the big outside of PCs names like Sony I guess it isn't too surprising.

*hugs laptop*

Heh, I was just confirming it was true - a lot of people don't seem to believe it, and pointing out how/why I'd never heard of them either until a few months ago :P

I wish I would have bought an Acer, I bought a Dell one and it's great but it's a beast! It's soo heavy to lug to school and back. At work I have an Acer and it's so much better, lighter and just nicer in General. :D

acer are good notebooks. Only problem with them is that if they ever do break, in North America they are a Depot only repair, No repair centres
The cost to send them in for out of warranty repair is $449 US if they are out of warranty. even for a cheap part. Stupid flat rate repair
