Hello all I have a Internet Explorer question. Can you completely take out Internet Explorer can you redownload it? or if you keep getting an error how do you fix it?

You cannot remove Internet Explorer in any normal Windows installation, or without third party tools. And it's a very bad idea anyhow :)

What's the problem with it?

Er, well, I got rid of it through...either Add/Remove programs, or Add/Remove windows components. I don't think it's completely gone though, but it's not an available program for me anymore. (XP Professional SP.2)

Ahh yes, here it is. Internet Asploder is uninstallable via Add/Remove Windows Compnents, via Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.

Have you still got the windows disc (or recovery disc)? You could reinstall it from there (Add components)

You could try downloading internet explorer from the microsoft website (if you can find the download button:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx

Please note that using the IE 7 Beta may still have some bugs. If you are going to use it, be prepared for errors sometimes.

Otherwise, I would advise installing another browser such as:

Good Luck :)

Er...if you were referring to me, I uninstalled it on purpose.

1) It's made by Microsoft, and
2) It has so many security holes, it looks like a piece of swiss cheese.

I use Maxthon.

Why don't you just keep it there but don't use it?

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

*shrugs*

'cause it's evil and it's made by Microsoft.
(and I don't use it anyways, so why let it waste valuable hard drive space, eh?)
I can always re-install it anyways if I need to.

Removing it with Add/Remove programs just hides it. It's not really gone. The only way to really remove it is with nlite or somesuch. http://www.nliteos.com

But don't complain to me later that Windows Update doesn't work, or all the other stuff in Windows that needs atleast the IE Core :D

IE is made by Microsoft yes but you use Windows, also made by Microsoft...

Another alternative for stripping down XP/2000 is xplite and its Win2k version (you don't state your Windows version hence YMMV).

Theres also an ActiveX plugin for Mozilla (Seamonkey and FF). That _may_ work w/Windows Update. However if it does not you can grab patches from Microsoft.com anyway, you do NOT need Windows Update to grab patches.

Also, you can use your prefered browser/frontend, set it as default browser, and only use IE for Windows Update. You can even tweak your IE settings to only allow _that_ website (See: Config Screen -> Internet Options). Theres even an extension for FF to open Windows Update. It opens IE then, to Windowsupdate.com, and voila.

Avant Browser uses the IE rendering engine. Same as MyIE2 / Maxton. Just a frontend w/additional features.

I suggest to use the browser/frontend which you prefer (whatever it may be), make sure you secure it and futhermore keep a note on its patches / vulnerabilities. Run a virusscanner and/or registry-watcher and/or anti-spyware program (realtime or not) and you are generally secure. IE, FF and the like can also be tweaked to secure settings i believe XP/SP2 and Win2k3/SP1 come w/advanced security features (for IE) enabled. Futhermore just use IE for Windows Update (easy; easier than manual install for the avg home user) and hence don't uninstall IE either the 'unlink' way or the 'hard' ("lite") way. Its not worth the hassle. Just change your default browser, in XP/SP1 and higher: Start -> All Programs -> Change Default Programs -> Browser -> Custom -> Select your prefered browser (you may have to install yours first).
