I have the latest (I think?) Firefox - 7 - and I have to say, it's kind of buggy. I've had a few problems with it, one of which is trying to play one of the free shockwave games and it telling me something needs installing - java and tries to install Sun Java? then the installation fails.

I have spybot s&d, ad-aware, CWshredder, spywareblaster, mcafee a/v, stinger stand alone scanner and zone alarm pro firewall (not the v.6 upgrade, I've read too many problems with that - have 5.5). Also have HijackThis for scan/logs for comparison and to see if anything's trying to hide.

Yet I too with all that have gotten some pop-ups on neo on my non-premium account, so has my roomie who does not have premium. And I scan very regularly with all the above.

that horrible winfix ad just came up in the middle of me doing the repository thing. it frightened the living daylights out of me! anyway, when i clicked on the cancel thing that came up ( it was trying to sell itself basically through one of those little things that comes up like in the most annoying webpage in the world one) it opened a new window. i quickly shut everything (didnt get time to take a screenie, was too frightened it'll kill my computer)and now i have nothing to tell neopets about so i cant exactly report it.

TNT... i know you're busy with the plot, but could you PLEASE keep an eye on these ads... theyre horrible!!!!! :x

I have Internet Explorer, but nothing like that has ever come up for me. I have a pop-up blocker, and when it blocks one it notifies me. I might get a notification once or twice a week, it doesn't happen too often. No pop-ups have actually ever gotten through my pop up blocker, though.

I'm using a netgear router on my home network to share the 'net connection. One of the features is a site blocker which I use to block most of the ads. Any time I get annoyed by pop (ups/overs/unders) etc... they get added to the list of blocked sites.

Works great but not so good if you don't have one.

Question: Does anyone have the url of the ad itself so I can add it to my AdBlock filter?

I've gotten that one on 250Free. It's so annoying. It even drove Linux crazy. And when it drives Linux crazy, it drives the Linux USER crazy.

Hooray! It has now been fixed:

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this. As of earlier today (October 10), the banner ad for Winfixer has been removed and should no longer appear on the Neopets website. The pop-ups that were happening over the weekend were most likely being caused by this advertisement, and we apologize for the inconvenience. If you continue to receive unwanted pop-up advertisements while on Neopets or any other site, it is possible that your computer has gotten some spyware that is causing this.

I can now switch my Javascript back on, it's amazing what doesn't work with it switched off...

I got infected by that virus, a while ago.. not sure how.
Stupid winfixer.. it's literally unfixable by any easy means.
I've yet to reformat my computer, but I will soon, once I get everything backed up. It's a pain in the arse..

Meh.

It's only a matter of time being this slips by again, and we're posting this stuff all over again.

And actually, it got fixed like Saturday (when our topic was in hot discussion). So, they're reading this. Good! Maybe now they'll keep their site clean since we've already having the adverstisement we were promised to never have.

Sorry I'm a bit late on this....haven't been on much lately.

So Neo is now allowing in ads that are corrupting our computers with spyware? Ads that can negatively affect epileptics? And all this on top of the ads that are definately NOT child friendly?

Charming. Just more proof, IMO, they TNT now don't care about the game or the users, as long as they're getting the cash.

I can't believe they have ads up that have a bad effect on people with epilepsy. They should block all ads like that.

I had problems with the winfix ads as well and reported it as soon as I saw it. It gave me a huge fright as well. I guess neopets received loads of complaints that weekend. :)

I don't know about ads but neo are really slow to react about things that cause problems for people with epilepsy. I came across a userlookup once that had cleared all info from it to be replaced with a huge flashing background of bright colours that flashed really quickly - I don't have epilepsy but in the few seconds it took me to shut the page it gave me a huge headache at the front of my head - owie. I figured if it does that to me then it must surely be very bad for those predisposed to ill effects from flashing things.

I reported it saying could they clear the lookup and let the user know it could be dangerous... three weeks later it was still there  I've forgotten the username now but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still there.

Anyway, back on topic I am pretty horrified neo had winfix adverts. I know they are pretty good at getting rid of ads when pointed out but a) they shouldn't be there in the first place, and b) this kind of thing is constantly happening - using the users to moderate the ads for them is unacceptable of such a large company. Hopefully this will give them the wake up call they need :/
