Not much I can say about the picture, except it certainly looks cool .

It's creepy but it's just us imagining things. Deep down we WANT it to look like Satan so that's what our eyes are seeing. I have a weird thing that I do that's similar. I find patterns in or on everyday things, such as a fabric fold in some clothes, things like that, and I imagine images from them. Today I could see a pattern in some carpet that was a bit worn and pictured that pattern as a dog with really long legs and the dog was standing up on his hind legs. But really, it's just a pattern. And if I wanted to I could change it to something else. I could make it look like a house if I wanted to.

I think it's just what people want to see, nothing more. Who's to say whether 'he' is real or not, nobody knows. That's really all I can say without bringing religion into it.

As for the photo that isn't obviously shopped: I've noted it before, and I'll say it again. Humans are pattern-seeking creatures; we can, and will, find patterns in what is completely random.

oh, definitely. like all the crosses people were seeing when the WTC fell. in order to make a structure, you HAVE to cross steel bars! or if you happen to be focused on a certain number, like if you're afraid of the number 13, you'll see it just about everywhere.


smoke and fire can take on all kinds of awesome shapes, so people see things in them all the time. if this picture isn't photoshopped, it's pretty rad that this particular shape got caught on film.

About the pattern-seeking, a funny field in which this happens is numerology, you know playing with numbers. Like for instance the a=1, b=2 etc and then changing your name into numbers and then adding them all and seeking a meaning in the final number, like compare it to certain dates. Also people who measure ancient artifacts and give a meaning to the resulting numbers. If you add and divide and subtract enough then you can change just about anything into a number that 'means something', which to me as a partial maths-student is pretty funny...
