For the past couple of weeks I have been trying to write this story, around doing homework and family stuff, I have started the first chapter, though I am still working at the end of the plot, and have made many different versions of it. I am finaly quite happy with the last few pages, but I have developed writers block.

I have had writers block before, and I just took a break from writing, I have taken a two week break and it still has not gone away. Has anyone got any tips or ideas on how to get rid of it?

Well, if I get writers block, I usually put on classical music or go for a walk in a local park to clear my mind. It usually helps.

EDIT: It helps to spell writers right.

I shall try that, thanks.

The park around my area though are right next to mega busy roads, and not very inspiring, but I shall still try it.

I find that if you get writer's block a good idea is to go and discuss whatever you're writing with someone else - This gets you out of the stagnant pit of ideas you're in right now and really gets your brain thinking. The thing is, you don't have to use any of their useless ideas, but i guarantee that they'll say something that'll make you think "OMG i've got a great idea!" and then you can scuttle off and write it!

Listening to music has helped me in the past, but I personally find that nothing brings inspiration like talking to another person and disregarding their ideas

Give yourself a deadline. It's the best thing you can do to get yourself writing. Of course, if you write it in a hurry, it's going to stink, but at least you've got a draft that you can go back and edit.

I agree with you (well, not the classical music part, since I ALWAYS listen to classical music anyways). A walk somewhere usually helps. For some reason being in nature and just noticing things you normally wouldn't just helps me.

Oh and also, get some sleep. Hard to write and think when you're tired. And I always get ideas from dreaming or just laying on the bed =D.

I'm a writer (not a professional one unfortunately ;)) and I get writer's block a LOT. What I do is just let the block run its course. I don't try and force myself to write, I just wait until the inspiration hits me and then I just write. Give it time. It will pass and then you can write and actually enjoy it. what's the point in writing for pleasure if you can't enjoy it?

whenever i have writer's block i read .. i know i know its stupid but many authors get inspiration from other authors...just look at rowling ... she was inspired by tolkein.

So find a book with a similar theme and see how that turned out.

The best thing for me to usually do is to just write anyway, pretend your words create a small hole in a giant block, keep writing words and the hole gets bigger until it's gone. Weird I know, but it works for me.

Writer's block is weird, I guess it would depend on how you like to write, you like thinking ahead or just spilling your disguisting guts all over the page. I don't get writers block all too often, bt when I do I'll talk to people, draw, or just write a short totally random story despite your writers block and sometimes that could ship it out.

When I was in law school, I got writer's block a lot. Mainly because back then I was such a perfectionist. I had to get every sentence just right before I could move onto the next one.

I finally learned that I just needed to write. And not look at what I was writing. Not edit anything. Not try to put it in any type of logical order. Just pen to paper and letting the mind flow. And sometimes the first thing to pop out of my head was the conclusion. Or the main argument. Or a great example. So, I wrote and wrote and then later put all of the pieces together.

I have also found that if you are stuck writing on one medium, to abandon that medium and try another just to see if it is easier for the words to get out. For example, I write a lot on legal pads. I love legal pads. But when I am stuck, I go to the computer, open a word doc, and type instead of writing by hand. I don't know why that works, but it does.

And, sometimes, I just had to clear my head completely. Just say to heck with it. I am not even going to think about it until I sit down with a cup of coffee for awhile (or go to work out or even a nap). And, quite often, when I would be in the midst of doing something else, I would get new ideas popping into my head. Things I wouldn't have thought of if I had just kept on trying to write.

I never tried Skullsplitter's idea, but my guess is that it would be helpful. To talk to someone about what you are doing. That forces you to think about what you are actually trying to accomplish. The key with that is to find someone who will actually listen and attempt to discuss it with you. Not someone just nodding their head.
