I think you should let your emotions show. (at least a bit) Keeping them in I find, hurts a lot!! So next time something like that happens, call your friend or relative or something, and just let out your emotions =). You'll feel a lot better.

You did the right thing, hon. After closing time it's no longer a courtesy to open the door for anyone who comes by. In the store I work in, it's policy to keep those doors shut after closing to everyone except working employess or else you could get yourself and your manager into a lot of trouble.

Some people just don't realize that some rules are out of your hands no matter how politely you put it to them. You can't just change them whenever someone wants you to...especially if it could cost you your job.

As for the pushchair...sounds like someone just wanted to get stuff off their hands without going through the hassle of a garage sale...

As a general rule, people also seem to think that charity stores are just dumping grounds for their old junk.

Yes, that aggravates us so much at the charity shop. The rich people of town decide that they don't want that junk up in the loft and so get all the dirty clothes, toys and ornaments down, most of it broken too, and give it us. We end up wasting our time binning it all while we could be preparing the clothes and other items to go into the shop for people to buy.

It's not just rich people either. People just send it us because they're too lazy to either take it to the tip or get rid of it themselves. And something else irked me and my manager too. We had a phonecall asking if we could take some donations and then the man who had rung told us that it was too tatty and wouldn't sell at a car-boot sale. The cheek. What makes him think it will do any better at our shop?

We also get a lot of troublemakers come into the shop. One has been banned.

Yay, for Ginger!!! It is OK to be sensitive about certain things. But things you cannot change, ah, you have to treat it like water rolling off a duck's back.

In college, I used to work as a waitress for a pancake place on the night shift, across the street from a bar. My Lord, the looped, nasty people that came in for food when the bar closed. Yikes!!! And the nasty attorneys I bowed down to when I worked as a paralegal. Double yikes!!! Let's just say that if I had a dollar for every person who has been undeservedly nasty or mean to me, I'd have enough to fly this entire forum to a tropical island for a sweet vacation. And, if I had let any of them ever get me down, I wouldn't be here right now. But, in some mental institution knocking my head against the wall.

It is hard. But don't let nasty people get you down. Ever.

And, gee, Skullsplitter, I am honored. I am able to get you, the wild man of PPT, to behave? I am super-human, after all.

Now, as the resident mom, I must say this. Everybody play nice, OK?

These things can be expected to happen at the store Ginger, you just have to remember that you're doing the right thing and that those that act so cheeky won't repay all their words with whatever items they may donate to 'benefit those in need'. No offense, but I too believe that too many people just 'dump' stuff at a charity because:

1.They're too lazy to do elsewise.
2. They don't want to 'seem' snobby to their neighbors by trashing it.
3. They want tax deductions.

Not being keyed to any one religion, it does bother me that many religious people that donate to charities are so rude, somethimes even violent. Just because you may 'automatically repent for any sins by doing virtuous deeds' or whatnot doesn't mean you have a free ticket. As Daja from the Circle series says, "Bookeeper logs every word you say."

Wow. Those women are really awful. I can't believe people steep that low...

First off, you are awesome. Second, you didn't deserve that. No one would have deserved that. Third, there is NO reason why you need to punish yourself. You don't need to be punished for anything. I think you did the right thing, I would have done the same.

I hoped I helped a little bit...Even though I said almost everything everyone else said =PWell, if you need to talk, I'm always here, and I will listen to anything you have to say.

Oh, and one more thing. I've learned, from experence, that if you hold in your emotions, whether sad, mad, disappointed, whatever you may be feeling, it will all come out one day twice as bad. One day, I was really sad because I found out I had to move away from all of my friends. I bottled it up for about 3-4 day. On the fifth day, I had a total break-down. I couldn't stop crying. My eyes stung for so long because I was crying for over 2 hours. So yeah... don't hold in your emotions.
