Well, I suppose there are those games that never end. =P
The Pokemon games aren't really difficult, they're just extremely time consuming. I mean the game itself is easy. It's just that doing some of the unrequired stuff is a bit more difficult (and sometimes tedious).

Myst: Riven
Without any help that is. I'm not much of a puzzler.... but I loved the environment and the story.

Devil may Cry 3!! Oh the pain of dying again...and again...and again

This will have to be far cry (of course if you cheat then it will be easy)
Save points, oh the joy of reloading a point 15+ times because you died right before getting to the next point...hunting down those mutants with cryvision...trigen that do 100 damage when you only have 100 health...

Advanced Wars: Dual Strike
Level 11 and 12 were perhaps the most difficult thing I have ever done in a video game. After 13 trys I beat level 11, and now I'm stuck on level 12

going for hard scenarios now eh?
Well, freespace 2 is a hard game (incredibly so infact)
But dawn of war: winter assault has a hard scenario.
8 player map.
hardest difficulty.
Play as Imperial space marines.
Against 7 Ork players.
PWNED almost instantly, unless you have some insane, godly ability to know every counter to every strategy.
heck, even if its free-for-all youll be dead in no time at all.

Hm, I've played a lot of hard games, and the hardest ones I can think of:
Pac-Man - I've only gotten to the second or third level in it... ugghhhh x_x;
Mario Bros. - Ugghhh, I've never beaten the original Mario either... What's wrong with meee XD
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - Well I've beat it... but it took me years... XD
Megaman X4 as Zero - Also took me years... and when I finally got to Sigma (final boss), I must've gotten 20 Game Overs before I FINALLY beat him... oh, happy day when I did.
Megaman 1 through 6 - HARRRD. I've only beaten the first one, and that was because I was using an NES emulator. Still fun though! ^^

Yay, someone else who shares my concept of hard games. ^^; I still haven't finished Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. It's been a long time since I tried though. I wonder if the memory chip in my SNES held up, it's tempting to drag it out and try. I played the game for about 1.5 years and made it to the last castle, and then put it away for some unknown reason. I don't think I could bear to finish it.

I have zelda, links awakening on my original game boy - never did finish it - could never beat the final bad guy - took like 2 years to get that far

Pffffft. Most of the games mentioned here are pretty easy.
Seriously, pick up a DS. Most of the hard games of the 'new age' are on there.

Flippin' TETRIS.
And yeah, I wish I was joking, but I have never beaten a game of tetris. Ever. My cousin has it on SNES, and when I was a kid I would try so hard just to beat a level. Last week I was over there and I figured, why not? I must be better at it now. Lo and behold, I failed. Time after time.
And Toejam and Earl for Sega Genesis. Never beat it without the cheat code. My whole family would sit down and take turns playing it, but we've never done it. *le sigh*

The original Metroid. You start off with only 30 health, even at save points, and in the beginning you only have a pathetic version of the Power Beam and the Morph Ball. Some of the enemies in there are incredibly evil too. No other Metroid game is comparable in difficulty, though Metroid Prime 2 on Hard Mode can be annoyingly tricky in a different way.

The original Mega Man.
Dear God.
