Yeah, I supose this is what people thought when organ transplants were first brought it. But hey, I could understand why the womman would under go such a dramatic operation. But I don't think I could ever go around with half of another person's face. I would just stick with the burns/disfigurement. WHen I'm older I will get one of those cards which allow your organs to be used for transplants if you die so I don't mind if anyone else uses my face, just not me useing theirs.

Yeah, its easy to say you'd stick with burns or some other facial disfigurement when you don't have any, isnt it.

Bah, i do it everday.
More due to the severly snide remarks i make towards everyone, but if somone who is as self conscious as i can do it.
Besides, the face will have been totally replaced by new cells in a couple months, so it makes not a blind bit of differance.

If you walked into a shop to buy a shirt, you wouldn't have people peeking from behind clothing racks to get a good look at where the shark tore half your face off.

No.
But i attract physical and social abuse on the basis that my hair is longer than most girls at college.

I attract abuse on the basis that i know what a Paradox is in an A-level english lesson.

I attract abuse on the basis that i am comfortable enough with my sexualtiy to hug a guy.

Sharks be damned, Humans are the ones that need to be wiped out.

I'd just like to say...

... I get no abuse.

But the thread is not about you or me. This is about that woman who's just had pioneering surgery. I know you're a very self centered guy, you've admitted that lots of time... but why are you making this thread about you?

Im Egotystical, and i have this silly habit of defending myself when opposed.

But hey, i honestly don't do it on purpose, and i will try to stop.

Obviously we go to very differant schools, mine is not one of tolerance or understanding.
It probably doesnt help my case that i have become rather more than cynical over the years, nor do the incredibly stupid comments my peers make, help to relive my snide comments.
("Why is it so cold all of a sudden?" "its called winter dear, happens every year about this time")

I will try and desist.

This is one of those stories/events in the world that I really don't know what my thoughts are on it yet. It's great that this woman is going to be able to go on living a pretty normal life, hopefully. But at the same time, how strange must it be to look in the mirror every morning and see someone else's face instead of your own? I know that psychologically, I would never be able to deal with that. I think we'll have to wait a few years to find out if this surgery was completely successful or not. Hopefully all of the medications work and this woman's body doesn't end up rejecting the new portion of her face.

Umm.
The face will be completely replaced by new cells within a couple months.

You are literally, a whole new person every year.
Except Neurons as i recall.
So she'll have another persons mind (so to speak)
Now thats creepy.

Nope, you'll not se another ones face, it'll be your own, they only transplant the skin, not the underlying muscles and bone structure.

But that happens woth all transplants of anything, the person has to take anti-rejection drugs.

Ahh yes, this one was a hot topic on the Phantomfans boards... that and the green puppy. ;) I think it's a good idea! But the face is such a, well, personal part, that people are bound to be a little squeamish about the idea. If someone walked by on the street with your dead sister's liver, you'd never notice, but if you see the person who's got her face, you're bound to be freaked out.

Then again, which is worse, that or having to walk around in a surgical mask all the time because your daughter is ashamed of you?

Haha, I knew that, though in this woman's case, some muscle restructuring is involved. (Her lips were ripped off.) Besides, I definitely support it, and if I died and someone needed my organs and/or face (can't see why they'd want it), 's all yours!

And, besides, the chance of any of the donor's relatives meeting the recipient is... really slim.
