UFO rant or sleep paralasis?
Well, paralasis because i have experienced the unfortunate cousin of it where i was stood at the top of a fleight of stairs at 2 in the morning, over the spot where i commonly see a Wraith.
It doesn't matter who you are, an experience like that shakes the faith.

Sleep paralysis, obviously ;)

That sounds really unfortunate. I thought seeing my own funeral before my eyes when I was actually awake was bad enough. I was awake because...well, you just know when you're dreaming, don't you? May I ask what a Wraith is? I've seen them on Final Fantasy before but I doubt they're the same thing.

Talking about stairs though, a while back I was convinced someone had died there and that their ghost was haunting it because I kept seeing weird things on the stairs. Weird lines and things, and when I walked into those lines I went cold. Spooky, huh? It hasn't happened for the longest time and it happened at the time when I got REALLY obsessed with ghosts so I presume it was my imagination. I write stories so I have to have a good one, you know ;)

And then when my cats died I got convinced that they were walking up and down the stairs. I actually saw the ghost of my cat on there, and so did my my parents so that bit really IS spooky. Having the three of us see her certainly isn't my imagination.

And I once believed that my Grandad had come back as a guardian angel and was protecting me because I could alway see a dark mass of weirdness above my pillow. Weirness is the only way I can describe it o_0

And the time that a person died in the canal just outside our house and I was sure his ghost was haunting the bridge.

I'm obsessed with ghosts. Can you tell? ;) But I still don't know what a Wrath is o___0

Sorry for going a little off topic. As soon as anything related to ghosts crops up you'll find it very hard to shut me up.

I've had sleep paralysis a few times before but it is mostly when I am very tired anyway. It was creepy and yeah, sometimes it sounds like people talking or a presence. I've also had lucid dreams that turn pretty scarey sometimes. I mean, I know for sure I am dreaming but I don't want to be dreaming what I am dreaming either. Sometimes I even feel pain in my dreams. I've found a way that for me works to get me awake. If I know I am dreaming or if I have sleep paralysis, I hold my breath. This at the time seems like the last thing you want to do, but it does work for me when I am aware of what is going on. I hold my breath until my body screams breathe! And then when I allow myself to breathe I wake up from the stress of it all. I've tried other ways of waking myself from a nightmare or from the paralysis but nothing has worked. If I try to move well, I can't. If I try to scream or anything I can't but I can at least hold my breath.

And well, some people are sure that there is something out there, like an energy vampire or something like a sidhe or shade or whatever name they give it, incubus. If you want to find out if you have one, get a motion detecting webcam thing and set it up in your room to take a picture whenever something moves. Or get a digital camera that can hold loads of pictures and just snap hundreds of pictures of your room to see if you get any orbs or strange blurs or anything else. I've seen some pictures on the web of things people have captured in their rooms.

Another thing to do is to just set up a tape recorder and record your room when no one is around. If something is there, it will either drain the battery unexpectedly or maybe you will pick up a sound.

Depending on what you believe, it could all be in your head or it could be something. Who knows. I myself believe there is a lot of evil in the world and things we can't explain, so I am open minded either way. I've seen weird pictures of ghosts and stuff on the web, and if even ONE of those pictures is real, well it is something to think about...

Anyway, maybe you can contact someone who can bless the house. But beware of getting scammed with that too. Because there a lot of people who will play on you fears and spout some mumbo jumbo and throw sage around and make a salt circle. But well, I don't know if it works but I am sure people can get scammed easily with that. But I don't know how to tell you who is a real and who is making it all up.

Sleep paraliysis.

What happens is your body wakes up before you exit REM sleep or if you enter REM sleep before your body shuts down.

The auditory sound and sensation you describe is not unusual. You can have visual halucinations as well and they do look very real.

I suffer SP from time to time. I've trained myself to not be afraid while they happen. Instead of having the sensation something evil is after me, I end up feeling aware of what is going on and that it is only SP. I feel more frustration than anything, because while that is happening, I'm not sleeping and lack of sleep means being groggy in the morning.

I still have little luck with sleeping because it will happen repeatedly almost several times a minute. For me it feels like several neetles poking my back creating a tingly feel and wakes me up with a sore back. I also get a sound. It sounds like yawning with my mouth closed.

I've found the best way around it if I can't sleep through it is to wake up fully and stay awake for an hour and then try sleeping.

SP is actually a rather common thing and is fairly normal as far as I've found out. Some people may be more prone to it than others, I guess.
If you need more info I can google it. ;)

BTW I had googled it foir myself expecially during my senior year in high school. They were happening so often it seemed like I was having an experiance on a weekly basis, almost like 3 out of 7 days with at least one epsode. It got to the point I as afraid to sleep.

The first episode (that I know as SP) occured to me when I was around 10 years old and while I was a little bit sick with a flu. That *REALLY* freaked me out. I was seeing nothing but a tingly blue patch (like if you glanced at the sun or stared into a light bulb) drift from one side of the darness to the other and with it a chiming noise.

I think I had eposodes before that maybe since I was five years old, but I only remember the fear, not the paraylysis. Some of the dreams with those were quite vivid.

But since I researched it I've managed to remove the OMG I'm being attacked by an evil spirit fear for the most part. If you can train yourself to think about it being just a common problem right after you wake up, you may be able to think that when the episode occurs. It's quite comforting, really.

Lucid dreams are fun. I take those as an opertunity to fly. I've even had dreams where I'm dreaming and then waking up to talk about my "dream" but then wake up from even that to talk about the dream I had while I was dreaming. :o One of the oddest was when I had like a 3 part dream where at the end I wrote it all down, read it aloud and then vomited like crazy. I woke up later realizing it was all a dream. I've also "collected" things in my dreams, wishing I could keep them, but somehow aware I'd lose them. I can also remember things from previous dreams. Sometimes I'll even have a series with a very story-like plot. The series can be within a night, or be random dreams spread across several years. I can be just about anything in my dreams. I can be any age, any gender, any ethnicity, and I can even be any animal such as an eagle or pig. Sometimes it's a realistic animal, and sometimes a fantasy creature such as a dragon or a phenox like bird.

My dream world is quite interesting, really interesting.

You can PM me too if you want.

I hope I don't have one of those in the house...

I'm one of the biggest ghost nuts there is. Well, not really, but I am fascinated. You see shadows and stuff? Cos I do too but because I always seem to see them when I stay on the computer at night, it's most likely a mixture of tiredness and the computer screen doing something to my eyes. But it could be ghosts Probably IS ghosts. I tend to think that my room is haunted. It makes life more exciting.

My mom's friend who lives in Wales saw a ghost lorry coming towards her as she was driving, at night, in the middle of nowhere, in the hills and mountains of rural Wales. Of course, it could have been a real lorry if it weren't for the fact that this lorry abruptly turned a corner and out of sight when the road was actually quite narrow and there weren't any roads it could turn into. Now that's what I call scary. I'd love an experience like that.

My mom's decided that she's going to take me ghost hunting at a nearby castle one day soon. Can't wait!

Anyway, the first time I saw those shadows behind me in my room, it freaked me out. Still does, but I'd rather see them than not see them if you know what I mean. The first two nights it happened it looked like a human shape moving very fast behind me. It started at my right and then moved extrememly fast to my left before disappearing. The spookiest thing was though, it happened again the following night at the EXACT same time. It had to be a ghost. There's no other explanation for it. Maybe someone died at that exact time and they were just telling me that I wasn't alone. It would make sense cos I often feel like there's a presence in my room. And it's even worse when I get Sleep Paralysis, believe me!

Start listening to Coast to coast AM on the radio if you can. For the record, I think there's some sort of differentiating between ghosts and shadow people.

Shadow men are a form of ghosts.
Along with Wraiths, Poltergeists, shades and numerous others.

In all fairness ginger, if you ever see a Wraith, you will know it.
Somthing just not right about them, nothing compared to a Daemon (or rather, what i think is a Daemon) but still, very memorable things.

My dad was once saved by the ghost of his father-in-law, somehow he recognized him too (never met him, and had never seen a pic)
Was in France lorry driving.
He was falling asleep at the wheel, but had nowhere to stop, then he felt. Somthing.
He looked to the passanger seat to see a figure sat there, who said it would all be okay, my dad promptly fell asleep.
Woke the next morning at the services at the base of the mountain.

Here's something I posted a couple of days ago on another forum:

"Last night, around 3 in the morning, I awoke to a sharp pain on my head. Something had hit my head and it really scared me for a few seconds. I looked to my side and found a long dark shadow on my bed. When my eyes adjusted I realised what had hit me. I bought a wooden snake that moves like a real snake a few years back and it had fallen off my bookshelf above my bed, hit me on the head and landed next to me on my bed. What's funny is the fact that it's been in the same place for over a year and hasn't moved, not even with my window open and a gale blowing through the window. Another thing: if the snake had fallen, it would have hit my arm, not my head, since it's situated where I rest my arms when I sleep. It's nowhere near my head so why did it hit my head when it's almost physically impossible? I think I'll move the snake tonight ;)

Anyway, explanations maybe? Or is there a poltergeist in my room? Would explain the moving shadows I see in my room at night too, occasionally. Spooooooky!"

There's definitely a ghost in my room. And notice I mentioned the shadows in my room too. Heh, just saw one now actually, flash at the left of me. They usually happen at the dead of night, though.
