But Kaos(and co.) usually do it because they are fed up of neopets extorting people apparantly...

Well, everything of mine has just been PINned... although I am DEFINITELY keeping away from shops for a little while... which sucks, because I am trying to collect keyrings...

Question to the duke of the internet (dolphinling ^^): Can these grabbers get your PIN? I'm assuming not, because the PIN is not stored in a cookie (I think FF wanted me to, but I told it to go away) as far as I am aware. Is this correct? At least this will keep my important items safe... ::hugs Ring of the Lost and Royal Wedding Ring::

Arg, this is so frustrating. I really want to train my pet but am too paranoid to go shopping for codestones. Better safe than sorry I suppose....TNT should most definitely attempt to pursue legal action against this sorry fool if they can.

I've been reading and rereading this topic, but I still don't know what to do.

Can someone clearly explain the safest method of how to quickly protect your account if you happen to come across a CG?. Say in that short time period when the person may not have accessed your account yet, what do you do?. Do you delete the cookies first, reset the pass, what?. Step by step instructions would be nice.

NO, they do it because they're infantile little morons who think that upsetting people and ruining a GAME for everyone means they're sticking it to the man. They need to get out in the fresh air and realize they have no lives.

I doubt they're just sitting on their hands in the case of Kaos. They are probably working with authorities already and hoping that Kaos does something stupid enough to be trackable so that they can catch him.

Back when I worked at a college computer lab, I found out that some of the students were cracking into the school's mail server and other servers. I didn't have enough proof, so I waited around, set up some traps, and eventually caught them. It took time, but if we'd just confronted them in the beginning, they'd have taken more steps to cover up their tracks and it would have been harder to prove.

Perhaps Neopets isn't making an outright legal threat because they don't want this person to go deeper underground, thus making it harder to find him.

I don't see how he should be hard to find. He's so hungry for "glory" that he's given out his IM handle and e-mail to anyone who asked for them. I, personally, think he'd be stupid enough to think he's safe even if Neopets did take legal action against him.

Change your password, as fast as possible. If you suspect you've been grabbed, that's the only thing that will stop them.

Just as a suggestion, aside from the obvious staying away from any user edited pages.

After once again running all scans, and while being disconnected from the internet I just made up a list of really bizarre passwords on notepad, along with my current password and saved it. I'm keeping it minimized so I can pull it up immediately. Have your user pref page open, either in a new window or tab. Do a c&p of your current password and put that in the space for your current password. Then just copy one of the new passwords.

If you go to a page and get a blank, then very fast redirect back to Neo, open that user page, paste the new one you've already copied in both spaces. I think? this may be faster than typing your current one in and typing in a new one. You've got to do this as quickly as possible.

You can also keep track of the password you're using then by adding a note onto your notepad.

Right now I'm very angry and sad, as 2 people I know who are good, honest, long term players (meaning they do what they can to keep their accounts safe) have now been cg'ed.

Don't depend on your browser or any add-ons. They don't always seem to work. Use your common sense, be careful and let's do what we can if we see anything suspicious to get the information to TNT so they can hopefully put a stop once and for all to this.

Well it appears that TNT has blocked a lot of html and css coding for the time being. A lot of "blocked" on User lookups, Shops, Galleries, Pet lookups, Petpages, and Guilds.

EDIT: Never mind, it's fixed.

I have a quick question though. I was looking at a friend's shop who I know doesn't have any idea how to cg and there was alink on the page for a rare Maraquan card. Yeah, I was a dummy and followed it since I figured it lead to her husband's shop. As you might have guessed, it didn't. After a second I realized what I did and took the appropriate steps to protect myself. I checked the source code and didn't recognize anything to be a cg, so do you think I would have gotten nabbed if I checked out the user lookup of the linked person?

I didn't, but just curious.

Someone got to my boyfriend's account today.

Petpet map thing. He didn't realize what had happened, then when he came back later, his bank and nps were cleaned out. About 100k gone.

Luckily, that's all they did. He didn't have the PIN on anything, so we activated it everywhere and changed his password. Would have been horrible if someone ditched his Halloween Kougra.

The worst part is, the PIN doesn't hit everything. The person could have very easily took his black gallion or cleaned out his shop till. I sent an email to TNT suggestion more PIN options. Perhaps more people should pester them as well. Our equipment is safe, but petpets aren't. Many are just as valuable!

I changed my password as well since we use the same computer. Didn't want anything to come back and bite me...
