My dad had these pair of speakers and subwoofers in the garage because my uncle gave them to us, and I wanted to hook them up to my computer. Well, the sound is great (they're JBL speakers btw), but I get no sound from anything I play in the browser, or anything from the OS (like the sound when it logs on/off). I need this to be fixed, because there's some stuff I want to listen to but can't because it can only be played in the browser. (It does this in FF and IE)

try going to 'start', then 'control panel', then click 'sound, speach, and Audio devices' and check around there... I don't know what to change though...

Well, I've tried that too many times to count, so yeah...

Also, if it helps, my speakers are set on '5.1 surround sound,' because they're plugged into the subwoofer jack, and none of the other options work. I can hook up my other speakers up so there are 4 speakers and one subwoofer (so it really is surround sound), but the placement of my desk prevents me from putting them elsewhere.

Hmm... you said that they sound great, but that they're not playing any sound from the OS or browser. Does that mean that they're playing sound from other programs (eg. Winamp or itunes or games), or are they not playing any sound from the computer at all?

If it's the latter, maybe downloading the latest driver for your sound card might help ... otherwise, I'm not sure o_O

When I listen to music in one of my players (either Winamp or Windows Media Player), it sounds great, as well as if I play any games, so yeah.
