U2. Not a particularly huge fan, but I like a few of their songs.

I'd like to suggest L'arc-en-Ciel as a competitor. They've got at least one song I know of that's entirely in English.

-will have to start a J-pop versus sometime-

Yes, I'm sure L'Arc-en-ciel can qualify.

Edit:

I'd like to suggest The Pussycat Dolls as a competitor!

Do competitors need to have a song in English, or can we have completely foreign artists?

Well, if they don't have any songs in English, they have to be at least known among people who don't listen to that specific type of foreign music.

For instance,

Utada Hikaru sings in both English and Japanese but the fact that she's known around the world makes her eligible for "Versus". I never listen to J-Pop yet I knew who she was and when she started to sing English songs, she got really big.

I hope this answers your question, I really don't know how to explain it other than that.

Pfft, as if. How can you not like their song "Beep" which depicts extreme vulgarity?
