Shingles = Chicken Pox for geezers (a geezer in this situation is anyone over 15)

Well at least you know. My great aunt got that at 86... and she's still suffering the consequences. But I wouldn't worry (she's now 90). She's got a heart condition, and bad hips/bones... and bad eyesight... and she's like... 90 lbs so it's no surprise really that she's still got issues from her shingles.

Butterfly, oh I'm sorry! Shingles, from what I understand can be horrible. It's also contagious - if you've been around anyone who hasn't had chicken pox, they can get that - not shingles, chicken pox.

I did some research on it earlier when the rash was getting really bad, so I did read about it. Maybe not from there.

Thankfully everyone in my family has had it at some time or another. My sister is the only exception. She was lucky. She got the vaccine. Obviously it was too late for me with the vaccine coming out at 1995. I had gotten it much earlier when I was about five years old.

About the recovery part, I hope so too. I'm not like bed ridden in pain, so I can move about, sit down and get on my computer. That's good. Unfortunatly that means I can't get away from doing chores around the house. <_<

The doctor said about the pain that it's most painful in the elderly. If a young person like me or him gets it, the pain is not as bad. I hope that's true. I guess it must be if I'm not totally laying in bed able to do nothing but cry out.

The worst part is the rash and the sticky feeling. The sharp pain is annoying but I can deal with it, except for occasional outbursts. The itching I'm sort of used to, because I have dry skin and allergies. Itching is a common thing for me.

With the rash I have to sort of go around in my house topless or with my shirt tucked into my bra. The rash is what really complains if it gets touched.

I guess the neighbors get a rare treat. Obviously that only works when at home. I'm not doing that outside, no way.

Shingles... sounds like the hinges people use to connect their doors to their walls.

I've never heard of this word before.

My sister gets the shingles, and she's 20. Don't feel bad. It's actually quite common. Just go along with the doctor's orders, and try to milk it for all it's worth with your parents.

*pathetic cough* "But I can't do dishes, mummy. I'd love to, but the doctor says that if I exert myself, my shingles will explode and a flood of bacteria will rush into my system and kill me within the hour."

Just to let you know if anyone was worrying about me, I'm fine. I still have the rash but it's healing and looking much better than when it did.

FYI, I'm planning to take a break from both neopets and the PPT, so you may not see me around for awhile. I may occasionally log in, but I don't know how long my break from neopets will last.

How did it heal? By itself or some ointment?

Lots of calimine lotion, neosporin type stuff (sp) hydrogen peroxide, ibprohin, etc. I used herbal remodies like lemon juice (to rub over the wound), eating garlic, cloves, etc. Praying helps too. Warning, rest of content may not be suitable for sensitive audience.

I have a bad habbit of peeling off scabs as soon as they get loose around the edges, which means it'll probably scar really bad in that area. It's not a huge area thankfully. At least it doesn't look dark red like it did when it scabbed over.

I still have pinkish bumps all along the curve of my hip that end where my right thigh starts, but at least the itching and hurting has reduced greatly. I hope in time those bumps will go away too. Besides the patch where the rash was in, the other bumps are about the size of acne. Hopefully they won't leave a conspicious scar.

I'm not fond of those midriff shirts that only cover only about a 3rd or half of the torso anyway, so that area wouldn't really be a problem anyway
