I just had one of my topics locked, I guess it could possibly be interperated as offensive or controvesial but I really just was wondering about the subject. Maybe instead of having locked topics just notify the person why thier topic is not appropriate or whatever then let them delete it?

We generally don't delete things around here, unless it's spam or a double-posted topic. Topics that are locked serve as a means to show other people it's not okay to post about similar subjects. It's not that we're deliberately trying to make bad examples out of people, and that's definitely not the intention; it just ends up with this second purpose. :P

In some cases, it also helps serve for keeping track of things.

I do believe that you didn't wait long enough for the staff to post a reply to your topic. Give us a chance to do so please before you make posts like this. We're only human. We get distracted, or detained by other things outside of posting, and generally we will contact you with the reason as to why your thread was locked; either by posting on the thread, or by private messaging.

As well, when we lock topics, other members can read the lock notes (and many do), and this can help reinforce rules as to why we do not allow certain posts/topics.

Snippy's topic was locked, and he came here wondering why, the lock notes were made after he created this topic.

That is exactly what ahote was commenting on. Snippy posted this topic before the moderator that locked the topic was even able to reply to it.

Some moderators do post and say that they have locked the topic before actually locking it. Just preference, really.

I don't remember being called ahote before... *gives robot a cookie*
But yeah. Actually, I would post the lock notes before I realised that you could reply to the topics after they were locked (If you mod that section that is). And sometimes i'll still post the lock notes first, but i'm paranoid most of the time that someone will reply after me, or my computer will lock up, and then people will post a response and i'll have to go delete it.
So I just lock first now. *gives Paul a cookie too*

Heh, I did that once- Jim had supposedly locked a thread, and I posted after him. He didn't delete my post, though.

I'm not quite sure where it came from either. I don't think I've ever called you that before. Hm, watch it stick now. >>

Admit it, you love it! There will be t-shirts and buttons announcing that "ahote" is in and "inrun" is TOTALLY out.

You'll wear it with pride. I bet we can get Yoshi to fashion one for Arrow as well. It'll be grand!

Alright, I'll wait longer for a response next time. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for a reply.
