Amazing show. I just saw the movie, and it's not as good as the show, but still pretty good I guess. I could go on and on about that but I just did that on the last movie you watched board, so I'm not going to do it again here(unless you want me to)

Anyway, what are your opinions about movie vs. show or just on the movie if you haven't seen the show?

I've only seen the movie, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I mean, I thought it would be FANTASTIC from all the good things I'm hearing about it. It was good, but it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. :P I got my hopes up.

Yeah. I thought it would be a lot better as well.
I think it would have worked better if they'd just kept it like the show with no talking. Switching between just made it sound weird.

I wish I could re-find this LJ icon I saw once, so I'll just put the text here.

"I liked RENT before the movie."

I thought the movie was alright. It was nice that most of the cast was the original Broadway cast (everyone but Joanne and Mimi). But I was kind of put off by some of the parts that were supposed to be sung (the opening anyone? "December 24, 9 pm Eastern Standard Time..." - It was spoken in the movie if I remember correctly, and I was instantly crushed).

I guess I would recommend the movie, only if someone is not familiar with the original musical.

Oh, I still like RENT, just not that movie that stole the name, plot and most of the songs :D

Same here. It started up and the first thing I though was "What? Your supposed to be singing this! It sounds stupid with talking". Or something along those lines. A bunch of the songs were like that too, like you okay honey, you'll see, happy new year, etc.

I've wanted to see RENT on stage for years now, but I could never find someone who was willing to take me/go with me. So I went to see the movie, hoping for something fantastic....

I could tell from the movie that RENT is probably an excellent stage show. However, it makes for a very lackluster movie. :(

Yes. On stage it is absolutely AMAZING. It doesn't work as well as a movie though, and the way they did it(with talking) just doesn't sound good in my opinion.

I've never seen it, but I can say with great confidence that 525,600 Minutes is one of the most annoying songs known to man. Although if I'm guessing the context correctly, it's not as bad as all that.

How can you possibly say that?!?! If that is true, then anything by Britney Spears deserve grammy's.

I have to say that Seasons of Love is actually one of my favorites. I do see how it could be annoying though if all you knew was the 525,600 minutes part. Any song is annoying if you only know one line.

Well, not quite one line. But it does loop from "525,600 minutes" to "How about looooove?" non-stop, so yeah.

EDIT: Technically, Britney Spears actually got a Grammy at some point, didn't she? But if I had my way, Weird Al would get Grammys, so...

Well, I just saw the movie. After seeing the movie, I would love to see the stage show if I had the chance. I love musicals of pretty much any kind, but where I live I don't get to see them very often. (Pretty much never-rural area and a busy life) I didn't know most of the cast was from the original show; that makes it even better. I suppose the added the talking to appeal to a wider audience for the movie.

It's a smart duck....watch it do math..........o.0

Maybe, but I don't know. It seems to me like the talking would turn people away from it. I can't say for sure what it'd be like if you hadn't seen the show, but the switching back and forth between singing and talking just sounded... off... to me.
